Gaming PC for my son

No real idea on this, just watched a few youTube videos and tried to copy the specs.

He would love to upgrade to one of them wide monitors eventually (like a Samsung Odyssey G9), so not sure if that makes a difference.

I do get a warning about the motherboard on this spec, something about not having USB-C but the list of motherboards doesn't specify USB-C, so no idea which one to choose.

We already have monitor, keyboard, mouse etc... as he has a really old gaming PC (purchased from here about 6 years ago).

He wants to play the latest games like COD, etc... which he currently plays on XBOX.

Cant remember exact monitor, it’s a 4k one, think 27”. Uses it on his xbox at the moment.

budget wise, around 1500, i know this one is 1600 which is kinda max.
Ideally, we’ll need to know the make and model of the monitor, but at the very least we need the resolution and refresh rate. The reason we need that information is because the GPU needs to be matched to the monitor.

Unfortunately the budget isn't going to be there for a decent experience on a 4k monitor. The XBox/PS5 will always offer far better value for money in this regard.

You can build a system for £1600 of course, but with current pricing it's an entry level 1080p build as far as the GPU goes. At the moment £1500 is getting you in the door of 1080p. £2k is 1440p or high end 1080p, £2.5k is 4k or high end 1440p. The ultrawide that you mention really needs a £2.5k budget to even be thinking about such a monitor.

There are new GPUs due out at the end of the month which should help to lower the GPU prices a little but it's not going to get close to that sort of budget.

A top end GPU costs £1500 on it's own unfortunately. What we would consider a high end sensible GPU option is £1000. By the time you factor in windows for £100 and the box to put it in at £75, there's not a lot left for the core components of the build...... which are far more important than the GPU for a sensible build.

It’s a MSI and refresh rate is 120 or more as we bought it to match his series x.

The model will be on the monitor on the brand label on the rear, or on the OSD

But yeah, the budget is nowhere near sufficient for a 4k system I"m afraid, you're quite a way off.

Oh right I see.

So what would I need to change then (Ignoring our budget).

Thanks
Either you'd need a budget of around £2600+ for a 4k build

Or you'd need to buy a 1080p screen along with a £1500 1080p pc.

Be aware though, £1500 is not really enough for a basic 1080p system, and you'll have to cut corners to manage a system at that cost. £1700 is really the entry level currently
