hello,

ideally im looking for a PC to run current games such as total war series, hopefully for the next few instalments, and also other AAA games.

£1500 budget but willing to go slightly higher if it warrants the extra hundred or so.

i know i can significantly reduce the price for 1080p gaming but i’m treating myself and wanting to go to 2k.

i’ve basically been running games on a potato for years so i can’t really be disappointed.

RTX 2070 super is punching over your weight for the budget.

I have that monitor, and it's fine, great for what I paid for it, but ideally something with a higher refresh rate and freesync that takes less fiddling to get to work in gsync compatible mode. Furthermore, a better monitor with a wider adaptive sync range will go a long way towards futureproofing as you don't need to worry about keeping over 55fps as much (which is the point at which freesync with Nvidia goes wibbly with this monitor in some titles, in my experience). A 2060 Super is way more than enough.

You should generally expect to upgrade the monitor less frequently than the GPU, so invest a bit more in that instead.

760p SSDs are bad value. You can get an SX6000 with twice the capacity for about the same price. It's just not cheap enough to compete against the cheaper, larger SSDs, or the faster ones like 970 Evo and WD Black.

Faster RAM with a Ryzen CPU.

Stock AMD coolers are fine.

And a 3000 series CPU ideally.

awesome thankyou!! as far as i am aware, the CPU isn’t all that important in gaming, as long as you have something as in the quote then you will be fine, am i correct in saying that?

in terms of the 2060 vs 2070, is it worth paying more to future proof? or will the 2060 super be more than adequate to run newer games at 1440p?

Yep :)

Given your limited budget, I do recommend getting a decent GPU and a decent monitor, rather than a high end GPU and a budget monitor.

The CPU can be important, and in view of the performance advantages offered by the 3000 series - which may be particularly relevant when you inevitably come to upgrade your GPU in the future - I'd recommend it.
