Here's my build

Vortex II-17: 17.3" Full HD LED Backlit 16:9 Widescreen (1920x1080) Super Clear Glossy
Intel® Core™i7 Quad Core Mobile Processor i7-2720QM (2.20GHz) 6MB Cache
8GB KINGSTON HYPER-X GENESIS 1600MHz SODIMM DDR3 (2 x 4GB)
2.0GB nVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 485M - DirectX® 11 (17.3" Vortex II)
120GB INTEL® 510 SERIES SSD, SATA 6 Gb/s (upto 450MB/sR | 210MB/sW)
750GB WD SCORPIO BLACK WD7500BPKT, SATA 3 Gb/s, 16MB CACHE (7200 rpm)
SONY BD-5730S 6x BLURAY WRITER & CYBERLINK SOFTWARE
GIGABIT LAN & KILLER™ 1102 WIRELESS 802.11N
Genuine Windows 7 Ultimate 64 Bit - inc DVD & Licence

I'm trying to stick with a budget of around £2.3k, and maximise the gaming performance. I went for a slightly lower spec CPU so I could opt for the SSD drive for my OS.

I feel this system would give me the best "bang for buck", but I'd appreciate any thought's on this.

I'd also prefer a 500gb Seagate Momentus XT hybrid drive, as my second drive, but the options not available, is this something that possibly could be supplied or should I cancel the 2nd drive, and order this else where ?

Nothing wrong with that. I've just run it through the configurator, and you could up it to the 2820 CPU and still be under £2200 all in.
You could also go for the 160gig SSD 320 if you wanted, but it's up to you really.

The core things that you cant really change are the CPU and GFX. Alternatively, you could go this route?

Thanks,

I've purposely moved away from an SLI system, my understanding is a single 485m GTX performs on par with the 460's in SLI, without all the game compatibly / micro-stutter issues. As for the CPU, I've not listed the software options I've gone for so I would be slightly over budget if I went for the 2820 CPU, and although I've not seen any benchmarks I'm sure the performance gain would not justify the extra £££'s.

I'd still like to know if any alternative Hard Drive options are available other than those listed, as for the SSD, as this would only be used for OS, the 120g is plenty, and I'd much rather go for speed than capacity.

I think?? - someone from PCS will confirm - that even though it states 6gig transfer rate, it's capped at 3. So might as well get a little more space. I run all my games on steam and the OS via the SSD. In which case the Intel 320.

They will have the OCZ vIII soon - not sure when, but there were stability issues with it - At least there were with the II version.

I think you've got a pretty decent system there. Should you ever wish to swap, let me know :D

Not sure on the seagate drive as you would have to phone up PCS for that question, they might be about to source one out for you but you may get charged abit extra but not sure so a call tomorrow would be a good idea.

As for the spec, everything is a good solid build in my view regardless of the none upgradable cpu and gpu. although the 1600mhz ram isnt really need it can be dropped to save you money. Is the ultimate OS needed? its just the same as the other version but a few extra features which you may not need nor will it benefit you in gaming?

I'll have to ring and confirm that then, seems a bit strange that the 6gb drives are being offered if there not supported ?

I went for the 1600mhz ram as the CPU supports it, although I appreciate it not going to improve my gaming experience, as for the Ultimate edition its just my preference :)

I phoned today, and confirmed the system does fully support the newer / faster SSD's

Don't know if you've already ordered but reading up on the Killer card on their own forums and such, seems like a lot of hassle comes with it
