also will it last me for 3-4 years for gaming? and another question: i have heard that the gtx 765m is kinda outdated is it true?

If you're looking for longevity, I'd go for the 780m instead of the 765m. It's much easier to upgrade other components further down the line if needs be (CPU, ram, SSD/HDD) compared to a laptop's GPU. If your budget is stretched with a 780m, maybe drop down to 8Gb instead of 16Gb of ram.

I don't think anyone can give you an accurate answer on that, depends on the games and possible requirements. I personally don't think a laptop can last 4 years for gaming at decent settings.

impossible to say how long it will last. If you are willing to accept that you will have to lower settings down the line to medium and even low then it will last you at least that many years.

Will it last 3-4 years on medium to high settings. Its possible but that depends on what games come out.

My Optimus V with similar spec plays BF4 at 40-60 FPS with everything on high and lighting on ultra at 900p (visually I am seeing no difference between 900p and 1080p on my 15 inch screen and you get a huge performance boost). So I'm confident I will be happy with this machine for 3-4 years. But im also happy to turn some settings down as time goes on.

So unfortunately its not really a question that can be accurately answered. However The machine does lie somewhere between the two new consoles in terms of power so it should at least keep up with them to similar levels to a certain extent. Of course, if you can afford it bump the graphics card, as that will be the first thing to bottleneck in that set up down the line.

Also if you don't have one get a cool pad. Pretty vital for gaming laptops if you ask me.

i suppose the first thing to ask is does it have to be a laptop? a desktop will offfer far better bang per buck.

if it has to be a laptop though i strongly recommend getting a stronger graphics chip: the 8970M at a minimum. a graphics chip with 4GB of Vram is going to be able to cope a lot better with games designed for the PS4 and X1 compared to one with 2GB (the X1 and PS4 have between 4GB and 5GB of ram available for games roughly). the extra processing umph will also help the laptop last longer.

you could probably cut back to an i5 CPU like the 4200M. its a dual core/4 thread CPU. the i7 4700MQ does offer more headrom but if the GPU is letting the side down then the CPU wont be much good for gaming. most games out now dont use more than 4 threads and even when they start doing so it probably wont be critical to performance for some time to come. the PS4 and X1 have 8 cores (though not all are available to games i think) but they are clocked low and have more in common with a CPU you will find in a tablet. so i dont think games will need the strongest of CPUs over the next few years. dont go any lower than the i5 4200M though.

8GB of ram will be fine for now. its easy to upgrade at a later date.

if you really need to watch the pennies then get a smaller HDD also unless you really need 1TB.

but its really important to get as strong a graphics chip as you can if you want a laptop to last as long as possible. with the way the new consoles are designed i think more Vram is also going to come into its own and i would be reluctant to get anything under 4GB Vram if i want it to last 3-4 years. the extra GPU grunt will also become more important as time goes on.
