Gaming computer for little brother!

Hello

I'm currently looking to buy a computer for my little brother, he is really into gaming and it's nearly his birthday, so I am buying him a computer.

I have a budget of around £1000 to spend on a computer for him.

I was just looking for information on what kind of components I should put into the computer. I am not very clue'd up on gaming computers so I've come for help.


I'm hoping with a budget of £1000 the computer should play majority of high-end specification games efficiently and smoothly?

If you do need a monitor and peripherals you could get away with droping to a GTX 570. Would still be capable of amazing gaming performance.

Answer to your question, no the keyboard, mouse & monitor is not needed. Although suggestions would be welcomed since I am buying him them components on a separate budget.

Just one more quick question if it's okay?

I have a brand new version of Windows 7 Ultimate (64 bit) ready to use on his computer, so an operating system would not be necessary, although with an extra £93 pound left to spare what would you suggest modifying on the computer specifications?

Well in that case you can go with the spec Madman has posted above as that is spot on ;)

From what i have heard the Ilyama monitors PCS sell are good but i don't have 1 myself, i have a samsung syncmaster t260 it's a really nice monitor but was pretty dear and if you can find a logitech G15 keyboard somewhere that is in your budget they are good i think i paid about £60 for mine from PC world about 4 years ago and for the mouse i have a Rat 9 but they have much cheaper wired versions like the Rat3 and Rat5 you can have a look at.

Oh i meant to ask before do you want to adopt another younger brother as my birthday is coming up soon ;)

Haha!, I won't be making an habit of buying him these luxury gifts, only reason I'm buying him this computer is because I "accidently" broke his computer when drunk. So I promised him I'll buy him a new computer for his birthday.


I will be looking into them monitors you recommended. Thank you for the help it is really appreciated honestly.

Yeah, just on the note of Samsung monitors, they're extremely poor value over here.

Two years ago I bought my 22" Samsung in Singapore for ~£100 when it was just released (and advertised like crazy). It then took the UK several months to find their own stock by which time it cost almost twice as much as what I paid.

I haven't heard great things about Ilyama, but checking out Aria's cheap stock is a great start. If you have value in mind, they'll have their own dirt cheap self-branded monitors.
