Game PC review specification

Hi
I am primarily using my PC for programming/photoediting/number crunching and the GTX970 looked like the most cost effective for power consumption and price. My concerns are whether this configuration will be fairly quiet as the only case quoted as beiing silent will not cater for extra fans and wont take the 52 in 1 card reader I was going to get the DDR4 3000MHz memeory but that does not seem to be available any longer.

Looks good but 32GB of ram is overkill for anything other than vms. Also the silent cases have worse airflow which is bad for gaming, so just turning down the fan rpms would do the same with a less permanent side effect

What's your budget?

Budget was pushed up to £1681 by required hardware. 32GB is neccessary as I will be using vmware for virtual machines. Original thought was to get the 3000MHz DDR4 but only 16Gb and upgrade later. I have seen some reviews that suggest adding more DDR4 later as an upgrade may not always work.

If you are runing enough vms to require 32GB of ram do you not need more cores/threads on your processor (I find my number of threads is the limiting factor in how many vms I can have open) and adding ram later is the easiest thing to do on a pc.

Most VM's can run on a single core/thread depending what your doing. Most of the time the requirement for VM's is ram.
Ram may be easy to install layer but ideally you want exactly the same ram, so there is every chance your model will be obsolete or discontinued by the time you want more.

Thanks for the comments. I have ordered the PC with 32GB ram and 2 extra fans. Better that the fans run slow and quiet and plenty of cooling capability in reserve, the case quoted can take 2 extra 120mm fans or 1 200mm fan. I will contact PCS to check what they are actually fitting. Usually only run 1 VM machine but with this spec I should be able to run more.
