Flight sim build

Hi all.

I’m planning a build for flight sims (mainly DCS World) and would appreciate any advice on my build choices.
The world of gaming pc’s is new to me having only played consoles previously so it’s been a steep learning curve!
I’ll be playing on a 1080 monitor to start with but may upgrade this in the future as funds allow.
Also I’d like to keep the spend under £1700 if possible 👍

So here are my choices, what do you think?

Firstly, an AMD build will be a much better choice than Intel, they are currently dominating Intel in practically every area.

Any reason for a small-factor build? You get less selection and it requires more money to be invested than normal into cooling to prevent thermal throttling.

How soon do you need the build? For 1080p gaming your best bet is to wait for the 3050 (ti) to be released by Nvidia, the 3060ti is overkill unless you're planning on getting a 1440p 144hz in the near future.

Thanks for the quick response.
I have started looking at AMD so that is an option. What would be a good CPU/GPU combo? The RX6800 looks good, especially the extra vram as I’m guessing that would future-proof me a little.
The small build is due to very limited space. It’s not really an option for me unfortunately.
I would certainly be looking at upgrading my monitor asap, probably to 1440p or maybe vr if the system can handle it.

I wouldn't recommend any high end hardware in a shoebox unfortunately. The parts will fit and they will work, but they will not be in a happy place at all. It will be completely detrimental to the performance of the system and the longevity. System builders offer them because they want to cover all options for the customer, no enthusiast would ever recommend going for it though.

If it's going to be mainly DCS world I think you can significantly lower the GPU. There's no point in spending £500 on a GPU when a £200 option could do just as good a job. If you kept the savings aside, you could then upgrade the GPU & the monitor at the same time, to have a nice pairing. It will allow the dust to settle on the current offerings also, and either the price will be down or there will be a new iteration out that will offer even more features.

CPU wise I would look at the 5800X. If the SIMs do eventually turn to DX12 it's going to be WELL worth it. MSFS2020 is going that way very soon.

So it would seem small cases are a big no no!
I like the look of that build and with a few minor alterations 🪚🔨 I could find a home for that case🤣
With regards to the storage, would it be better to have the OS put on the HDD or SSD?

Always have the OS on the fastest drive (so the Samsung in Nursemorphs build) :)

For 2021 and DCS, I would really think about 1440p.

currently waiting for South Atlantic and Typhoon to be resolved.

Video is worth a watch, it’s Pweety.

Well I think that Nursemorph’s build looks like what I’ll go for👍
Thanks for all your help and advice everyone.
Once I get set up I’ll certainly look at going 1440p once I’ve raised some more funds.

You could always spend more and go for the set up at 4mins 10seconds into this.
