Flat cable extension lead?

Hey all, trying to find a flat cable extension lead to run under carpet since I have a plug socket behind the sofa and I need to run it across the room to the other side were my tv and cinema surround sound is. I just don't want the cable to stick up under the carpet and look funny. I can't seem to find a flat cabled extension lead, any help is appreciated?

As an electrician I can tell you that running a cable under the carpet is a bad idea,I've seen a few fires caused by people doing this.

Really? Any other ideas then?
What about running it under the rug so only part of the cable will be under the rug.

I would advise Getting an electrician to install an extra socket, might be a simple job to run a cable under the floor depending on the layout of your house.

+1

Not only is what you propose unwise but it will almost certainly invalidate your home insurance.

another quick idea I have just had might be feasible so what do you think about me buying something like this, - http://www.amazon.co.uk/Cable-Tex-R...qid=1395514927&sr=8-5&keywords=cable+trunking - and running the cable from the extension lead through it and then under a rug? says its fire retardant? I would normally pay to fit a socket but I don't see much point as my dad might force my mum to sell the house at any point.

its also not like the extension lead will be on 24-7 as I will only have a TV / blueray player for now and an Xbox one / ps4 in a few months - this might have no impact on anything but thought I would put it out there.
thanks for the advice !

That is a much safer solution, this sort of trunking is designed to protect the cable. However, you will notice the rise on the floor even with a rug and you will trip over it sooner or later. You will also find that the rug will wear excessively where it goes over the trunking. It's a better solution than an unprotected cable under the rug but it's not ideal.

I'd have thought you'd notice the trunking under the carpet imo. I'd vouch for Vanthus suggestion to install it correctly. Every other method is an elaborate form of 'botching' a solution if you get what I mean, it will work, but its not the best choice.

You might not need to run an extension at all if the ringmain in the house has spare capacity, the electrician will be able to advise you. Installing an additional plug socket is an easy enough job for a trained electrician and won't take much time at all (and so shouldn't cost too much) :) It will be a much neater job.

Maybe I'm just too picky :)
