What's it for? If for gaming, most of it can be reduced without affecting performance, no need to max out components as it won't make any benefits for gaming.

It is for gaming. Not like super hardcore gaming but yeah it needs to be powerful and future proof. I did suspect some of the components were OTT which is why I started this thread. Which parts of the configuration should I change?

Cool. I wasn't sure where I could save money in configuring my PC without negatively affecting performance or reliability, I understand my configuration options a little better now so thanks! Still not entirely sure about cooling though lol

sub–£2000 gaming/media/creative/general PC. Advice/help?

Not sure about the SSD/HDD or the cooling (liquid cooling, fans, etc) or the case, for that matter. Advice? I want this PC to be fast/powerful, reliable and future proof, but i'm not super experienced with the whole customPC thing.

Same happened with me James, I had a pretty similar build to yours except I had a 500GB SSD for all programs and OS and a 2TB HDD for storage and an i7 same processor as yours and a 32GB hyperX ram with the 970 graphics card, now I didn't know what is the best gpu (graphics card) but I think 970 is alright as it fits a budget, came to about £1470

Well as stated most components can be lowered and not change performance.

You could get an i5 instead, a cheaper motherboard, a air cooler and a 250GB SSD instead. This would still run all games at max settings (I have a similar build but with a last gen i5 and a 780 instead and runs everything at 60fps maxed out)

An i5 with a better gpu such as the 980 or 980ti is a much better combination. For £1470 you should easily be able to get a 980 in the build

Are you sure? Because the i5 has less cache and doesn't have hyperthreading. And would air cooling work for a K CPU?

Games are GPU intensive, that is where you need the best parts, an i5 is fine for gaming. Are you going to over clock, if not a standard CPU will be fine.

I'm not going to overclock, so I guess i'll get the non–K CPU. Will I be able to use a less expensive/big cooler with the non–K CPU, as in, will it run cooler?
