First Gaming PC

Hello, my son is looking to buy his first gaming pc. I would like to know if this spec he has put together would be ok and would be capable of running fps games at 144hz at 1080p as well as other games including Rocket League etc. His budget is an absolute max £1000 for the PC, preferably lower than this. He plans to purchase an Acer Nitro VG240YSbmiipx 23.8 inch FHD Gaming Monitor (IPS Panel, FreeSync, 165Hz, 1ms, DP, HDMI, Black) from Amazon and therefore would also be keen to know if this spec is compatible.

Any advice would be gladly received.

  • The configurator came up with this, anything to worry about?
You have selected a 550W power supply, but based on our calculations you actually only need a 350W power supply. We have calculated your specification to require around of 337W power including a 20% allowance. Although it is not a mandatory requirement to select a lower wattage power supply, doing so will save you money and the last thing we'd like to do is over charge you!

  • We note that you have selected an M.2/PCI-E SSD drive and a mechanical hard drive under the primary hard disk drive option. Please confirm whether you would like your operating system (OS) to be installed on the SSD drive or on the mechanical hard drive

That's just saying that you could get a way with less power on the PSU, but the PSU is specced as it's better quality and accounts for future GPU upgrades, so don't change it. There's no harm in running a higher spec PSU, the PC will still only use what it requires.

The second is just asking where you want the OS, you want it on the fastest M2 drive.
