First and best head to head game

I was thinking about which game I miss most from the early(ish) days of PC gaming. I remember seeing Revs on the BBC micro and fancying a go of that, but I didn't have a Beeb so never played it. Then Geoff Crammond released a number of F1 games on the PC and I loved his Grand Prix 4.

I took this into work one weekend and met up with a colleague. We had networked training rooms and hooked up two pcs to two LCD projectors in different rooms and played head to head racing.

Unbelievable. I still miss that now. F1 2011 still doesn't match it for excitement, even though it's graphically much better.

What about you guys? What game gets your vote?

Resident Evil 1, don't think there is a Win7 (legal) version :(
Great game!

A series of bizarre murders have occurred on the outskirts of Raccoon City, with signs of cannibalism on the victims' remains. The Raccoon Police Department's Special Tactics And Rescue Service (STARS) are assigned to investigate the murders. STARS is divided into two teams: Alpha and Bravo. Bravo Team is sent first, but after contact with them is lost, the city's officials deploy Alpha Team to investigate their disappearance.

Most of my childhood was spent playing Resident Evil 1. It was awesome. I still have it on the PS1. I also bought a Gamecube solely for the remake, which is also fantastic. My favourite game of all time though is Final Fantasy 7. Just don't play it on the PC, they messed up the music bad, though they're re-releasing it on the PC soon.

You remind me Dayve, I bought an N64 solely to play Goldeneye on. I have the updated version on PS3 which came our recently and it's like revisiting a childhood location. Nothing's the same but there's a certain resonance there. I had Resi 1 on the original PS1 and loved it, but the interminable door opening graphic really got me down.

Which reminds me yet again, anyone remember Alone In The Dark? My middle son would come into the room when I was laying it and immediately run out again as he found it terrifying. It was incredibly atmospheric and the puzzles drove me mad trying to work out what was to be done.

Loved it.

BTW The son is now at Oxford and it his experiences watching me playing don't seem to have held him back in any way.
