Final build spec - ordering today!

With an i7 2600k, could I overclock with a titan fenrir? or not cold enough?
I could get a k, fenrir, with sabertooth mobo, but has to be on a 750w corsair psu (to fit into my budget) this will all be with 3gb 580 and 16gb ram. that works with my budget.

If I can't overclock with the fenrir I'll have to go to 2600, in which case I can get 850 w corsair psu.

This is my last decision regarding this pc, I know I probably wont get any replies in time for it to effect my order, but if you're reading this before I post next please comment !

I got my pc yesterday, I have an i7 overclocked with a fenrir . Havent yet checked the temps and overclock yet, but from reviews online the fenrir does as well as the eco coolers.

Just order the a pre-overclocked system from pcs, and yes you can overclock with the titan fenrir.

What will you be using the PC for?

For gaming, you could get the 1.5GB GTX580 instead of the 3GB version and use the spare cash on the TX850 PSU.

One last thing if anyone has opinions, sabertooth or p8z68 pro? pros and cons?
I've just decided to go with nzxt m59, purely because of aesthetics and it's not a bad case based on reviews. That and the maelstrom are most expensive I can get. Is that the right choice or does one have better cooling for eg ?

Meds, it's a gaming styled rig but for 3D rendering, as I'll be using realtime rendering (similar to game engine). This means I need the 3gb for if I ever do a large model, combined with a card like the 580.

edit** - to add, now that im settled on 2600k with fenrir, i can get the tx850 psu its just case and mobo last minute decisions now

HAf 912 plus is also a very good case for cooling.

Sounds like your doing much the same as me, I use mine for game development, ill be rendering in Max aswell as realtime in things like UDK.

I have the P8z68-v pro board, fenrir, i72600k in a HAF-X case, check out my post in the show off your pc section if you wanna see pics, see hwo well it fits together, also for reference I have 2 3GB gtx 580's in there too.

Whats the upside of that mobo over the sabertooth? I like sound of the reliability of the sabertooth.

As for case, my favorite looking one is the m59, but if the HAF is substantially better for temps etc. then I could go for that. ?

The motherboard is the newer chipset on the Z68, it also has options such as ssd caching, which may be of use to you. For me I just didnt like the look fo the sabertooth, and I think (but not sure) I was put off by something to do with the PCI-e slots, although for the life of me I cant remember what it was.

I will install MAX tonight and let you knwo how it does. incase your wondering. I have been told however that the GTX 580's work very well with it.

Yeah youd need an SSD, my load times are aweosme now although im not using ssd caching, im just usign the SSD as my primary drive.

Not used either of those two programs, however if it handles max rendering and UDK realtime rendering I reckon it should handle most stuff

Ah I wont go for the sabertooth. Although its description is convincing and makes it sound reliable, its not like the other one isnt! And alot of people seem to go for it.
I am not using an ssd. Going for a 750gb caviar black. Not considered a lot of memory but I really wont be filling it up at work! And it seems fast enough for a hdd.

Yeah I'm sure itll handle it. Once I have the rig I will be posting some pics of it and some renders too, as a sort of tribute to what you can do with under £1500 these days
Oh I'd love to chat about using UDK for realtime, as I dot know much about it but I guess here isn't the place haha

Also just noticed your cpu running at 4.5ghz! That seems great for air cooling to me, but maybe it's just because I've been out of the loop for so long..

I will check what its capable of tonight when I get home, but yeah 4.8 is the max overclock PCS do, whether mine will reach that im unsure, but with the HAF-X cooling and the fenrir cooling it certainly seems like it should do a good job.

Ill run prime later and keep and eye on the temps see what happens, an ill elt you know.

Cool thanks man! The only clock speeds I'll be going to will be very safe, as in very good temps etc.
Also if im not wrong OCing shortens the lifespan of the cpu..
So ill play it safe

The wait is horrible, but the waiting to be delivered wen u know its in the van is even worse lol
