Faulty WD Passport Ext HDD

Hello Folks,

I recently purchased a WD Passport 2TB External Hard Drive and copied quite a lot of information onto it regarding my work.

I have taken it away on one trip where it was carried in the same padded laptop rucksack as my computer itself and was not bumped or dropped in any way (as far as I know)

When I try and use it now however, the LED on the drive flashes and there is a constant beeping coming from it. It also seems to be trying to "rev up" but can't seem to kick in.

The laptop does not recognise the device and I have come to the conclusion that it is goosed.....

Anybody have any ideas for how I can retrieve the data contained within? I have removed the drive from the case to see if it would fit in a caddy I have lying around, but the connections are not compatible.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated

Thanks.

You can use this program and check your hdd.Its very easy to use and its free.It will tell you if hdd is faulty, also you can change everything what you want.Have recovery option as well. This program see all discs even if your pc not recognise the device. Hope this helps.

Thanks Keedar,

I had a go with that program and it does seem very useful, however it cannot see the faulty drive.

Windows plays the "attached device" warble when I connect the dodgy drive, but it seems that nothing can read from it as it does not show in the list that shows up on Easeus

I think I may have to write the data off and start again......

I've had 3 WD drives and 2 of them have had this fault.
WD will replace the drive for free under warranty but charge for data recovery.
