So im deciding whether or not to buy a 4tb wd hdd for inside the pc along with a ssd for the os or whether to just buy the ssd for the os and a 1tb hd and then get a 3tb external hdd for my games etc... any input would be nice as this is an area i am not so strong on when picking pc parts.

I would go for a larger internal HDD as opposed to an external.
An external USB hard drive will be slower and running games from an external hard drive can have it's problems.

I'd probably go for a 120gb ssd, 2tb caviar black, and a 2tb cav green - (if you have alot of music/media/movies/pics etc etc.)

Why the 4tb version though?

Can you even fill 4tb's with games? If so wow, but do you even play them all?

Hi guys sorry for the late response :p I dont have alot of music and photos only about 4gb worth of music and a couple of hundred photos, the only reasons I picked the 4tb instead of the 2tb is im buying a lot of games with my new pc ... erm maybe to many to play :p im buying 40 new games and still adding to the list ever day lol .. will 2tb be enough?? if not I will go for the 4gb the last thing I want is an unstable hdd failing on me..
and I only do 3 days a week at college so the outer 4 im ment to be studying I play games trololol :p

To add to the earlier points, there are advantages to both internal and external HDD's but disadvantages too. You have the advantage of portability with the external that you don't with the internal, but if you happen to drop the external then it could damage files or even stop working and as mentioned the internal ones are faster, too.

And let me tell you, if you did happen to get an external, especially if you fill a lot of it, can be majorly frustrating. I dropped one once and it only had 60+ GB of files and that was almost enough for me to start pulling out my hair.

Oh also, I think installing games to an external source can cause problems, other than the speed it reads at. If for some reason the connection becomes broken or taken out in the middle of gaming I'd imagine it to be quite the annoyance or if you are saving something to the ext and that happens, too for example.
