Elite Dangerous on full settings.. what do i need?!

Hello :)

I'm curious about getting a gaming laptop so I can play elite dangerous on full settings.
I'd possibly use an HDMI out to plug into a larger HDTV, but other than that, the laptop would be running everything of course.

I was wondering how powerful a laptop I'd need to run Elite dangerous smoothly and on full settings.

Thanks if anyone can help.

If you can give us your budget someone will post a possible spec for you.

Hmm, well I wouldn't want a low budget to restrict my gaming.
I also don't need anything too excessive.

Basically to play a maxed out elite with no stuttering.

I guess I should just take elite dangerous's recommended system requirements, and add a little extra.
For example, if they recommend 6GB ram, get 8; If they recommend 2GB graphics, get 3.

Sounds like a good idea?

But we don't know what counts as too excessive for you :)

I'm not trying to be difficult; I just hoped someone would have the knowledge of what I need to run Elite Dangerous Smoothly

I don't need double the power that is required for the job,but since I'm not very knowledgeable about these things, I'm not sure how much power I do need.

OK, let's try a different angle, is £1,500 too excessive? It makes it a lot easier for one of us to put a spec together if we know what you are willing to spend.

That does seem a little high yes
I guess around £500 or £750 ?

As I said, as long as it has enough power to run elite dangerous smoothly and maybe and oculus rift also... eventually !

Ideally you would want a minimum of a GTX 970 GPU for good settings and that is going to cost 1,000. You could get the Optimus VII for around 700 but that only has the GTX 960. Have a look at the benchmarks online to see the difference between these two GPUs. Does it have to be a laptop? If you are going to run it through the TV you could get a desktop and will get a lot more performance for your money.

Hmm
I travel so a desktop is not very plausible.
I'm no expert, but as I say, I don't want any lag or stutter ruining my gaming experience, so it the GTX 960 doesn't cut it, I guess I'd have to go higher.

If you want to play at ultra settings without stuttering frames you'll have to go for a system with either a 970M or 980M.

I see

So I'm looking at at least a grand.
If I get a basic slow HDD drive, is it easy to fit a SSD drive that I already own?
Or are these custom made laptops hard to access when changing Ram and Hard drives etc?

Also I wouldn't need an operating system,or maybe even a dvd drive.. IF the laptop Bios let me install my OS via usb or memory card ?
I know that can be done, but maybe not with all models.

Yes realistically 1000.

The answer to all those queries depends on the laptop model you choose.

See what PCS offers, make some preliminary choices, then ask here again about the specific models or contact PCS. There are already quite a few threads on this forum by recent purchasers of gaming laptops, see what they have to say.

RAM and drives are simple to add on the Clevo models, which the majority of PCS laptops are, not sure about the other few machines. You can check the Clevo models here: http://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/laptops/clevo-laptops/40/
Unlike many computer sellers, PCS will not void the warranty if you work on the machine. Bear in mind that CPU and GPU upgrades are not always possible as they are soldered in in many laptops.

Thanks for the tips/ link

I don't know how to find that webpage without the link !
Not sure how you did.

I guess I'll just ask the staff about the model has HDD access when I start to choose and configure the laptop
