Dusty gpu

Hi, was wondering how to go about cleaning the dust off of the back of my graphics card.
There is a thin layer that I can't get off with a can of compressed air or a vac. Is it safe to just wipe it off?

A PCB cleaning brush will do the job.
Just use it to carefully loosen the dust and then blow it off with the compressed air.

The short answer is you don't need to touch it. it wont be causing any increase in heat and if you use the wrong type of material to brush it then you could be in trouble.

If you do decide to brush it off use something that does not hold static But I would leave it well alone.

Is using a can 100% safe though?Because i am very interested in this also in terms of future maintenance?

They are made for cleaning electronic devices :)
You could also use an air compressor which is cheaper in the long run.

Just be sure not to hold it on for too long, or too close so condensation forms on the components.

once a year should be sufficient, if you have the rig on a hard floor or anywhere more dusty than average maybe 6 monthly.

Okay great thanks :)

Where is an ideal place to put the desktop?

And do you guys have them elevated in certain ways so they can breath underneath better or?

Cases will come with rubber feet or even wheels which elevate them enough for air to pass under the PC.
I have mine on a small cabinet next to my desk where it has about a foot of breathing space around all sides of it. Most people won't want to or won't have the space to do that though.
You should be fine wherever you want to put it as long as there is space for the fans to intake/exhaust air properly. Just don't put it on a carpet. :)

My desky gets to sit on top of my desk, pride of place. I find it's a bit cooler there. I've tried it on the floor and it ran a good few degrees warmer, even with good ventilation.

I tend to clean my pc about every 6 months or so. I take everything out clean it all and put it back in again. But it is time consuming and cans of compressed air are getting expensive nowdays. May have to go for an air compressor like the Geeza suggested.
