Dual monitors problem

Hi all, I've recently purchased a second monitor (Acer Nitro VG271UPbmiipx 27 inch WQHD Gaming Monitor) to go with my current monitor (Acer Nitro VG240Ybmiix 23.8 Inch FHD Gaming Monitor)... I'm having issues detecting my second monitor. I've plugged the HDMI cable into the HDMI 2.0 slot. Not too sure if that's the issue? My current monitor is plugged into a standard HDMI port. Could it possibly be I have the wrong HDMI cable? My graphics card I have is an AMD 5700 XT if that helps in anyway! Thank you in advance!

What do you mean you've plugged it into the HDMI 2 slot, the GPU doesn't have HDMI 2? Do you mean HDMI 2 on the monitor?

The card only has HDMI and DP doesn't it?

At the back of my tower, there's HDMI 2.0 port right at the top and then the normal HDMI port on the GPU.

The HDMI port at the top is part of the motherboard. You need to plug the new monitor into your GPU with a displayport cable

So the HDMI port that's connected to the motherboard, is that just an additional port?

Do I need a specific display port cable?

Thank you.

If you want video output that uses the GPU, you need to plug the monitor into the GPU.

The motherboard's video outputs will only let you use the processor's onboard graphics (if it even has any, not all CPUs do).

Any DP cable should do.

I take it you've already tested your new monitor by swapping it out with the old one (i.e. unplugging your existing monitor and using the HDMI port on the GPU to connect the new one)?

Ah okay I see. Yeah I've tested it and it's all working. Just ordered a display port cable and should be arriving tomorrow. Hopefully won't have any issues with it. Thank you for your help.
