Hiya,
I've been looking about the site for a few days, playing around with the build options.
It's been a good long time since I've bought any hardware, indeed the laptop it'd replace is a 7 year old Asus and the desktop is an equally aging randomly built system mostly revolving around the first Asus Crosshair Motherboard.
With life and lifestyle now, I'm looking to replace both with a 17" laptop and I'm keen to get something that'll see me through another 6 or 7 years use.
Ideally it'd want to have enough power to run a projector or hook up to a TV/external monitor.
I do game, although not as much now owing to lack of decent hardware so I'd like a high enough spec to be able to run most things without thinking really.
I'll also like enough power for video editing.
A little reading around suggests 32Gb memory is going to be overkill for me (and anyway, there will be scope to upgrade that if need be a couple of years on).
Between the ATI and the 780M I think the 780 to be the better choice.
What do people suggest around SSD's and storage and options/benefits between CPU's, 4/6 core?
Ideally, my budget is maximum £2000 so (obviously) value for money, longevity (but I figure a custom build a good place to start over an OEM as it's been built then bits can be replaced when/if necessary), and 'solidness' are what I'm after. Solidness really in the chassis build really. Don't know if there is a difference between the Vortex and the Omega in this respect? Certainly there is a big difference in the reported weight but theres no HDMI out on the Omega, is that right enough? Why so heavy? (not that thats a bad thing if it makes for a 'stronger' machine.)
Thoughts or suggestions?
Cheers.
