Desktop Keeps Crashing

Hi,

My desktop keeps crashing. Sometimes it'll run fine for a couple of hours, while at other times the blue error screen pops up after a few minutes of it being turned on. At other times windows desktop just freezes, forcing me to restart it.

It showed this after the last reboot (not sure if this means much?). Could someone suggest what steps I should take to identify and fix the fault? Thanks

Have you tried researching online? I used to get blue screen every now and then and it was because of some of my drivers not being up to date and clashing with other drivers. Make sure you update them and if that doesn't fix the problem it maybe something more serious. :)

There's a few different dump files but overwhelmingly its the following one that keeps appearing:

A problem has been detected and Windows has been shut down to prevent damage
to your computer.

The problem seems to be caused by the following file: hal.dll

If this is the first time you've seen this stop error screen,
restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow
these steps:

Check to make sure any new hardware or software is properly installed.
If this is a new installation, ask your hardware or software manufacturer
for any Windows updates you might need.

If problems continue, disable or remove any newly installed hardware
or software. Disable BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing.
If you need to use safe mode to remove or disable components, restart
your computer, press F8 to select Advanced Startup Options, and then
select Safe Mode.

I suggest you install a freeware program called CCleaner, it will clean out all of your registry files and may sort the problem. If that doesn't work (and you've updated ALL of your drivers) contact Microsoft, they may be slow but they can usually sort the problem efficiently. I have no idea what is wrong which I am sorry for. :p
