hi
just ordered my new desktop last week and i am now looking to increase the size of my monitor (nec 20wgx2).
the dell U2412 is an ips panel as my existing panel, and i would like to stick with this type. (not a TN fan)
i have read numerous (so called expert) reviews that say this panel is good for gaming. but i would like more customer views on the subject.
anyone had any experience on this?
thanks
Simon

my budget is up to £400 and i would like 24".
have seen the dell going for £240 inc.

I don't have the dell u2412 , I have a TN panel monitor. I though that the ips panel is not suitable for gaming because of the high response time. I assume the nec 20wgx2 is also an ips panel, how did you find it for gaming? what GPU you got?

the gpu in my ordered pc is a ati 7850.
my current panel is ips too, yes.
its quoted response time is 6ms g2g.
i have not noticed a problem with gaming on it, and the quality when viewing photos is stunning. (to me)
i just fancy a larger screen with little to no drop in quality.
i am not a constant mad gamer, but when i do play i want good performance on that too.
cheers.

by the look of your kit, you take gaming a bit more seriously than me. ;)

Ha ha ha, not serious probably too enthusiastic sometimes with gear. The dell U2412m seems to have good reviews but the quoted response time is 8ms, would be interested to get your review on it while gaming if you order it.

Well I use a u2711 and it has a slower response time, and is amazing for gaming anyhow, so I think you'll be more than pleased with it!

Im personally ordering a DELL U2410 for my work and then a BENQ XL2420T for gaming, I had a tough time with a lot of review as always being completely different (opinions, pfft!) I saw one recently and was blown away, 120hz monitor so it draws the picture fast, no ghosting, I think a 2ms response time and the 3D was mind bogglingly amazing! IMO though!

I have this: Asus VS247H 23.6". 5ms response time, about £150. It's great :)

I can personally attest to the quality of the BenQ, I love mine to bits, whether I'm using it for games on my pc, on my xbox, or general browing and watching youtube!

I don't know if it's just me, but I find that even doing digital drawings with it is easier due to the response time, every twitch of motion or pressure gives you the impression of being more in control.. but that might just be in my head. They're lovely monitors and you won't go far wrong for the price.

Hello Tracker,
Have you used the monitor in 3D mode in your X-Box and/or pc? any feedback would be much appreciated.

I can't say I've used the 3-d on it for either, I have no 3-d capable games on the PC, and the only Xbox 3d game I have, Cod: Black ops, I haven't played since getting it. I have a pair of 3-d glasses lying around somewhere which came with my asus laptop.. just never felt the need to use them.
