Defiance III 15.6" vs 17.3"

Hey all,

I'll be picking up the Defiance III soon with the GTX 1060 and I was wondering if there were any notable differences between the 15.6" and the 17.3"? Cooling? Quirks? Or are they exactly the same, just different screen size?

A bigger case on a laptop usually (but not always) means better airflow and therefore cooling. It might also mean there's room for bigger fans here and there, but without seeing inside it, it's impossible to tell.

Yeah this is what I thought, I'm hoping someone has a definitive answer though.

Double edged sword. Bigger case can mean better cooling due to higher air flow per time. However, multiple things affect cooling and one other thing is also how far the heat has to travel from source (CPU/GPU) to sink (fins/fan). Larger cases that aren't designed well may have long heat sinks to transfer heat across larger distances.

I seem to recall a post where someone said PCS had told them the 17.3" chassis has an additional fan and will cool marginally better.

Needless to say it was a while ago and I can't find the link atm...

Turns out this comment was for the Optimus though, so may not apply to the Defiance and Octanes. That said, someone will probably have posted pictures of their 15.6" and 17.3" Pascal-bearing clevos with the backs taken off on the web somewhere.

This is what I'm most interested in!

I've seen images with the back off on the 17", but not the 15"
