Decisions on what processor if I have a SSD

I have decided to go for a computer with one Intel 520 series SSD of 240GB & a secondary drive 750GB WD Scorpio Black.

My question is; because I will have a SSD, would I not need so much the i7- 3840QM 8MB processor? Instead, would having the i7-3610QM 6MB or the i7-3740QM 6MB be suffice?

Would having an extra 2MB make much difference if I have a SSD?

Thanks

There's no relationship between CPU cache, expressed in Megabytes, to other external components, like the SSD.

Get the i7-3610QM - one of the best Quad Cores on the market, and it should stay as such for years to come. ; )

You say one of the best Quad Cores on the market. What about the 8MB version? Would I notice much difference with the extra 2MB?

I know it's more expensive but isn't it noticeably better or faster?

Thanks

Best in terms of price-performance ratio, an extra 2 Megabytes of CPU cache will not yield anything spectacular, unless you're unzipping files, rendering in Premiere, while playing Total War stategy game at the same time - all day long.

Disregard the size of the internal cache, 6 or 8 MB, but, if you really want to find the difference, do look at the base and Turbo clocks for each processor. For example: an i7-3610QM has a base clock of 2.3 GHz, which autoboosts to 3.1 GHz, while an i7-3740QM is in a 2.7 to 3.5 GHz range.

A 400 MHz difference in clocks may be worth the extra £80, or whatever is the price on 3740QM.

Like I said, all of this bears no relationship to SSDs, tho. ; )

Thanks for that information. That's definitely made up my mind now and I know exactly what one to go for.

Cheers
