CPU Usage 100%

Wonder if anyone can help.
I have a PCS system that I've had for about 2 and a half years.
Been running fine and speedy but all of a sudden today it seems to lag quite a bit.
Internet bit slower, clicking on Control Panel slow, etc.
I've checked the Windows Task Manager and it is constantly showing my CPU Usage as 100% is this correct?
I've never noticed it before but guess this could indicate where the slowness is occuring?
There are a range of processes running but the only one that seems quite high is svchost.exe (124,640 and 89,392).
Can anyone point me in the right direction to troubleshoot this?

I've restarted and it seems to have solved it for now, the CPU usage is now fluctuating as normal and is quite a low %.
Maybe it was just an error on the boot not sure but thanks for your reply.

I had the same problem with my 2 1/2 year old pc, right after the latest windows updates, frequently IE would send the CPU to 100 and virtually freeze the whole system!! A couple of days later the graphics card gave up (I doubt it was related)! To be fair, when i bought the G510 Logitech keyboard i became quite OCD about CPU and ram usage, and had only had 100 CPU usage with Photoshop up till then.

Still it did force me to take my finger out of my backside and order a new Pc from PCS, which i await with unbridled eagerness!!!

If you find out what it is, I would love to know, and thanks for posting the question it saved me.

Good luck, hope it gets sorted quickly.

I find firefox sometimes runs with a lot of memory and CPU usage, normally from flash websites the wife looks at.

try chrome seems to be much more efficient and doesnt cause a crash of the whole PC by using seperate processes

also use GameBooster to disable services you don't want that will free up some extra power for processes

My problem (touch wood) seems to have now been sorted as it hasn't occurred again so possibly was just a bad boot or a program frazzled a bit and caused the PC usage to be so high.
