Am i right that you can play games now with out a graphics card as long as the mobo has a HDMI port etc? I no you wont be able to have all the best graphics on like dx11 on full but will it be still playable?. How hot would the CPU get if you just played with onboard graphics using a 3770k 4000 on board graphics?..

I imagine you will be able to play most games with the ivy bridge integrated graphics but you would be much better off with the AMD Llano integrated graphics

According to what I have been reading, Llano has a better iGPU but those IB CPU cores can make a difference in their own way. Intel certainly seems to be making progress; whether it is enough or not is open to question. It seems to partly depend on what you're playing.

Bear in mind that the AMD integrated graphics can be linked with a few of their own cards in Hybrid Crossfire, so add a £20 6450 and you are miles ahead of the intels

If you're going to use discrete graphics then why fuss about Llano integrated graphics in the first place? Remember what I said: more efficient CPU cores can make a difference.

I bought a Llano A6 because it seemed to offer good all-round performance for a low price. Hybrid Cossfire was a seperate concern, one which might never be relevant to me because I might never need a graphics card for it anyway, content as I often am with lower settings or older games. Ivy Bridge wasn't available then.

Addendum: I have played Kindoms of Amamlur Reckoning, a new game. I only have reason for concern when I'm making a screen recording, something I rarely do.

Im just saying that llano has that upgradability without wasting the extra you spent on a CPU with decent graphics, you will be using the power of the CPU graphics AND the discrete graphics card as well

The intel 4000 on-board graphics is a significant step up from the previous versions but that's not saying much as those were truly diabolical for gaming. It's still not what I would regard as acceptable for gaming, largely because they are mostly designed towards playing movies than for gaming.

Taking Skyrim as an example, with on-board graphics you would need to run at low settings in low resolution (1200ish) to get an acceptable framerate (50fps). Up the resolution to 1900ish (typical for a decent sized modern monitor) and you would be looking at 30fps which starts to get somewhat jerky.

You could get a proper GPU for c.£40 (less if you wanted to go second hand) that would trounce the intel on-board graphics for gaming purposes.
