Cosmos II 15"

I will probably be ordering this configuration within the next week or so, but was wondering if this laptop would run demanding games such as BF4 for a couple hours at a time without overheating? I just wanted to know as I've got an quad core i7 and a gtx 850m, when before the GPUs in this chassis were lower end cards in the gt series. Could this cause heating issues?

The chassis is designed to stand high temperatures I don't think there would be an issue. You may want to consider silver warranty for an extra £5.

Thanks for the tip, will do for the extra £5. Just wanted to check it would all be alright.

Also, I may be able to spend another £80, what should I add? I was thinking about upgrading to the i7-4810mq, 16gb of ram or adding a 120gb ssd for the operating system. Which would be best to upgrade?

Thanks, George.

Yeah, It will be used for gaming, a tiny bit of rendering but not my main concern as that could be done on my desktop and general usage.

I would consider upgrading to the killer 1202 wireless card or adding an mSATA ssd

Thanks, I'll get the upgraded the wifi card since it's so cheap and will consider an msata ssd. Also, what's the difference between the msata ssd and the standard ssd in terms of read/write times and performance?

Skyfire vs cosmos

I was just wondering which of the two builds would be best for gaming. Either a cosmos 15.6" with an 850m or a skyfire 14" with a 760m.

Also, will any of the wifi cards be fine or are there benefits to getting the killer? I l'm just looking at saving as much money as possible and wanted to know if it was worth it or not.

You could stick to your original thread to get better feedback. The gtx 850m should be slightly better than the gtx 760m. But it compensates with the skyfire since it has a lower native resolution I would get the killer 1202, intel wireless card seem to be unreliable.

I'd go for the Cosmos. The 850m is slightly more powerful than the 760m (check my benchmark thread here!). It may be more expensive, but the 850m is better without any performance updates that nvidia will release (they do for desktop, i'm presuming it's the same for mobile gpu's)

Reviews for the Skyfire complain about the quality of the 1600x900 screen and apparently it gets really hot inside and outside.

The complaints for the cosmos seem to be that it's loud during 3d operations (but cool, it's for gaming so you should be using a headset, so this may not be an issue), and the fact the audio quality isn't great (i doubt you'll get great sounding speakers in a clevo/msi barebones at the price range you're looking for). The palm rest gets warm, but not as warm as the skyfire (38 celcius on cosmos, 48 degrees on the skyfire).

Thanks for the link. I've decided to keep the killer wifi card and go with the cosmos since it seems to be better for power consumption, weight and performance.
