Chassis
I know that most people aren't very comfortable with a plastic laptop case, but this is one is spot on. It's light enough that the laptop as a whole isn't too heavy, but the build quality is good enough that you just can't complain. The lid even has a lovely textured finish that looks and feels absolutely beautiful. I just wish I had a better camera, the pictures below just don't do it justice.
10/10
CPU
I decided to go with the i5-4210M because it's more than enough to handle anything I run, and was a lot cheaper as well for a slight drop in performance compared to the i7. Coming from a laptop that had an i5-2400M I am really pleased with it.
9/10
GPU
With a choice between the GT 840m and the GTX 850m, with both being the exact same price, I naturally went for the latter. And I must say that it is an absolutely amazing card! It has no problems running games at 1080p on high quality with good frame rates, and is good enough for connecting to an external monitor that there is no problem at all.
10/10
HDD
Going with a 5400RPM hard drive, I can't say I was expecting much from it. It performs well enough to get me through the day-to-day use, but it does take a short while to boot up. I did choose it though, so I don't think I can complain without sounding like a bit of a hypocrite.
7/10
Screen
For the money I paid I am quite pleased with the screen. Full HD really works with a 15.6" screen. I would have gone with the IPS option but I wasn't sure if it was worth it, but that's only because I've never had any real life experience with them. Overall I'm quite pleased with it.
9/10
Speaker
To be honest, the speaker quality isn't as good as the rest of the laptop, but it isn't terrible either. It's all right for the occasional YouTube video or Skype call, but I wouldn't use it to watch a film or listen to music. There's not really much to say apart from that.
6/10
Keyboard
This is it. The part I really want to skip over because the rest of this laptop is just so good. It's a chiclet style keyboard, which I actually prefer to a mechanical one, but the keys just feel so soft and kinda spongy. It really does take a while to get used to and I'm not completely sure I've gotten used to it yet. The keys require a slightly harder press than you'd expect despite being soft to the touch. On the plus side it makes using other peoples' keyboards much easier to use.
4/10
Temperatures
Going with the Arctic MX-4 thermal paste, I can safely say that with general use I haven't gone above 45 degrees, with idle usually being around 37 degrees. I haven't checked the temps during full load, but it didn't feel too warm, even when placed on my lap for a few minutes.
10/10
Battery Life
Given the components that it came with, I can't say I was expecting it to last more than a few hours, but it is enough to get me through a day at uni. Granted I don't use anything intensive while on the go, but I don't plan to anyway.
8/10
Overall
I must say, despite the keyboard and (possibly) the speakers, this laptop is just about perfect for me. My old laptop was only 14", so the size took a while to get used to, especially as I thought the old one was actually 15.6" (I don't know why, I just naturally assumed it was). I love the screen, I love the internals, it just works.
All in all, I have to give it an 8.5/10. Thanks PCS!
