Corrupt Windows Update Windows 7

Hi all,
My Optimus II laptop has been loyal and fast since 2011, but it's now developed a problem and I've run out of ideas!
I think the specs are in my sig - all I've changed since then is the HDD to a 500gb SSD. Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 64-bit.

Around February this year Windows Updates started to continuously fail. I tried all the Windows troubleshooting methods, but to no avail. It didn't bother me at first - I disabled Windows Update and carried on using the laptop as normal.
The error codes on the failed updates are:
* 800F0826
* 800F0902
* 8007054F

After looking online for these codes I think that something is corrupt in windows update meaning updates can no longer be installed. I've tried every troubleshooting and system restore / recovery method I can think of and nothing has fixed Windows Update.

There now seems to be lots of little problems appearing that I assume are related to not having Windows up-to-date. The audio service doesn't start at boot, the hotkey graphics don't work, bluetooth won't work. It also means I won't be able to upgrade to Windows 10.

Today I tried an in-place re-install which failed because it couldn't update files (surprise surprise), error code 0x583.
So short of formatting the SSD and starting completely from scratch I'm not sure what to do next!

Given that there are "lots of little problems appearing" and that all is clearly not well with Windows update I would be looking at a clean reinstall.

You can, if you want to try and fix this, open a command prompt and run the command "sfc /scannow"(without quotes) to see whether that finds any problems. If it finds anything it can't fix, or if running sfc doesn't improve things you might also try the command "dism /online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth" (without the quotes). If that doesn't fix the update issues then a clean reinstall is probably your only option I think.
