Coolit Eco ALC (Watercooling) leaked - HELP!

So I have a Coolit ECO A.L.C Water cooling unit, yes, I know it's absolute turd and today I decided instead of buying my new WC loop I'll get a new SSD first, jump forward 10 hours, jumped on PlanetSide 2 technical test, next thing *bang* my screen goes blue, instantly there's a horrid smell, check inside my case and there coolant all over my GPU's (yes, it hit both my cards) so I held down the power button and unplugged it from the back.

Judging by my blue screen my GPU(s) are/is fried? Obviously ordered a new SSD was a mistake and I should of saved the cash to fix this mess (if only I knew!)

I need facts and help, will Coolit compensate me for this, what should I do etc etc.

*EDIT* I have just emailed the company about what happened in hope they can supply me with a new cooler and, if worst comes to worst cover the cost of my parts.

Did you bought from pcs?

I assume you dont have warranty left any more (as the eco I's aint been sold at pcs for over a year) unless ya paid for more warranty.

I believe coolit do normally replace the coolers, fingers crossed ya damage is covered.

I sent an e-mail to CoolIT about the damage and their response was:

"There are a couple of items I will need to bring to your attention, including that it states quite clearly in the owner's manual warranty for the ECO ALC, that CoolIT Systems would not be held responsible for any consequential damages in the event of a failure of one of our products"

I sent my PC along with the ECO ALC to PCS who are instructed to write off and dispose of the RMA. This is what Coolit wrote to me when I asked about this:

"You are correct that PC Specialist is instructed to dispose of the RMA returns, only after, we have received the PC Specialist RMA request which has been completed. This is usually done on a monthly basis."

"CoolIT Systems has not been given the opportunity to inspect or do a failure analysis on the failed ECO ALC. Therefore we have no responsibility for the consequential damages"

How can they inspect the ALC if they have told PCS to dispose of the RMA.

They also wrote:

"You have to understand that these products do not arbitrarily leak their coolant"

"There is an initial failure mode which may result in the coolant leaking"

I asked what the above meant and did not get a response, are they trying to blame me? I for one will never buy anything from CoolIT. Good luck trying to claim for damages.

My advise to you would be to leave all your components out to dry for a few days. Hopefully your GPU's have not been damaged.

So Cool it have replied asking for a wealth of info to start an RMA. They want pictures of the warranty sticker etc which I hope my gpu's are fine because if I wanted them to reimburse me I'd be snooker ed given the coolant has ruined the warranty stickers (not that I imagine they have any manufacturers warranty left if they even had any at all). So I've cleaned to the best of my ability everything with isopropyl Alcohol now I'm waiting for it all to dry. I bought a universal cpu cooler which the guy in the shop said would fit am3, however even though it does say it fits am2 in the book, my board doesn't have any clips to secure it, I can only assume pcs removed these during installation for the water cooler to fit.

I got a retention bracket last night from a mate who had one floating around in his cuboard, pretty lucky since no pc shops around here seem to have any. A suggestion to PCSpecialist would be to include the bracket in the package still after removal, because fan coolers dont normally come with them and I would of had to buy a rubbish one from Hong Kong on eBay if my mate didnt have one.

Going to fit the bracket and get the hair dryer out to make sure its all dry and put the new cooler on (a temp fan cooler) and put my GPU's and RAM back in to see what the damage is. When cleaning my case it was crazy to see the coolant didnt just leak down, it must of actually popped because there was coolant on my RAM and on the back on my card reader in the front of the case.

if ya heard it "pop" I guess it could have been a pressure thing, maybe the coolant expanded with the heat perhaps?

So everything (almost) is back together and I'm currently writing this from my PC again!

It would seem that 3 sticks of RAM (12GB) have been fried so I'm trooping along on 4GB. I'm still yet to plug in my 2nd graphics card and check that still works, fingers crossed!

Now all I need to do is sort out CoolIT. Even if they give me a new one I won't be using it, I'll just sell it on towards to contribute towards my proper liquid cooling funds. Not only is it a rubbish cooler, it was LOUD, was weird not hearing liquid move around as I turned it on and it not sounding like it was about to take off (everyone loves over-exaggerating).

cool-it - glad i went for the air setup , they should cover your damage being that it was their product that damaged it , but a lot of companies riggle out of this sort of thing - hope you get it sorted m8
