Control Center problem

I have updated my nvidia drivers and now I have no overclock GPU option in the control Center. I still have CPU overclock though.

My system is a Octane V and I've uninstalled and reinstalled Control center but that does not work.

Any Advice?

Just to say that PCS's policy is that overclocking the GPU will void the warranty.

That's not one I agree with, but just so you know.

IMO (and based on a lot of experience) overclocking either the CPU or GPU in a laptop is asking for trouble. Cooling is a big issue for laptops and adding additional heat to the mix is unwise in the extreme I believe.

I have no intention of overclocking just yet ;-) I like the the feature so I can view the temp and frequency on the fly. I'm trying to see what settings in games are idea as not to push my hardware too hot.

Surely selling a pc advertising overclocking features and if using it voids your warranty is misleading? I'll check any small print as I never saw that when looking at the specs before purchase.

It’s standard with any laptop. The cooling is limited and can’t handle overclocks.

I cannot find anything in the T&C's of the warranty about overclocking. I decided to ring pcspecialist and a rep told me it does not void your warranty if you overclock using control center within a safe perimeter. Warranty is void If you fry the cpu/gpu due to overclocking but that would be due to extreme overclocking.

I don't really have any intention to overclock as my GPU is pre overclocked anyway. The rep did recommend using HWMonitor if I like to monitor how my laptop is doing. That way I can use the most up to date Nvidia drivers.

How is the gpu overclocked? PCS don’t do overclocks on gpu’s even on desktops?

When you overclock a PC you will not void your warranty unless the PC fails as a result of the overclock. If you overclock your CPU and your hard drive breaks, we WILL cover this under warranty. If however you overclock your CPU and it breaks, we wont cover this under warranty.

The only overclocking permitted under warranty is the CPU. If you overclock your GPU your warranty will be void.

This is an old post, but while I can't find the link I know PCS did reconfirm more recently that this bizarre policy (which appears to apply to desktops as well as laptops) remains current.

If they've abandoned that policy I wish they'd put it in writing :)

MSI afterburner which is bundled with Rivatuner statistics server can provide an on-screen overlay temps and usages for the CPU and GPU, including per-thread load for the CPU, and as well as displaying framerate can display frametimes, as a graph. Which is pretty cool - and useful if you're trying to work out whether any stutter is in your head or not.

It mentions nothing about laptops. I agree it is a grey area and now I'm confused with the overclocking of the GPU as the rep assured me warranty is not void so long as you don't fry it due to overclocking.

This is what is said on the feature list:

OVERCLOCKING POTENTIALGET THE MOST OUT OF YOUR LAPTOP

Take control of your overclocking with the control center software. Boost your graphical performance by over 10% with a single click.*

Tailor the Octane V to your requirements with four performance options to choose from; Quiet, Power Saving, Performance and Entertainment.

* Based on 3DMark 11 benchmarks of the Octane V with GTX 1060 & GTX 1070, with an overclock performance increase of 12.2% and 9.6% respectively.

Sincerest apologies, you’re right of course, I wasn’t aware that model was overclocked.

I think PCS need to update their terms on this if their selling pre overclocked models.

My reading has been that whatever pre-OCed hardware they sell is covered by the warranty but that when you start doing your own OCing (or OCing outside the presets they provide / whatever the hardware does of its own accord), then the rules for that apply.

If they're actually encouraging people to use the OCing software and OCing manually doesn't avoid the warranty short of you damaging the system by doing so, then they really need to update things.

There are a lot of stickies that probably oughtn't to be, too..
