Hi Everyone,

I am considering buying a laptop. I have about £800 to spend. I like a machine to be fast and responsive when I have multiple programs open. I also like nice graphics as I play second life and some time WoW. I don't think i really need high demand graphics. I like a fast machine but I dont really know how to overclock. however, i might want to learn in the future. I like a big screen. I don't really need portability cos its gonna stay on my desk.

I have saved a couple of quotes which are very similar. one has and Intel i5 and one has the i7. I am not sure the i7 is worth it for the things i will a machine for.

So I have to choose between the i7 and less RAM or the i5 with more RAM. As I said choices choice Would there be a performance difference if i chose the i7 build with less RAM which is a few quid more?

For day to day use and gaming more ram won't make a difference. Overclocking the CPU or gpu in a laptop is not advisable due to limited cooking provided by a laptop chassis and it will void your warranty. If it was my choice I would go with the 2nd one.

I would go with the i7 and lower RAM. The CPU isn't really upgradeable whereas you will have an empty slot to add another 8GB RAM when you feel you need it. And RAM is the easiest thing to upgrade

But i am wondering if I really need a 1TB storage if I have the OS installed on the SDD. I don't really save a lot of video's or films or do photo editing. Maybe a 500 GB would be enough storage
of course you guys can see i am struggling raising those extra few bucks.

One advantage of dropping to a 500GB is that you could get a faster (7200rpm) drive and still spend less than the 1TB. If you suddenly find you need extra storage, external drives are not expensive and work well.

The size of the secondary drive really depends on you. You are the only one that knows how much space is required.buf you are going for a 500gb drive I would follow Stephen's advice
