Cheapest PCS Desktop

For giggles, what's the cheapest PCS system you can configure? Rules are that it must be able to work immediately out of the box (after plugging everything in), so include an operating system, screen, keyboard and mouse (or equivalent). Oh, and it can't be a tablet.

Best I could manage was £302 (inc VAT). Won't post the spec to avoid spoiling things for others (and indeed it may be possible to go cheaper).


Edit: I put desktop in the title because that's what I was originally looking at. But then I decided to widen it and consider all non-tablet systems.

Hmn, can't work that one out either, the cheapest from any of the categories i can find is £300 for a mini-pc and that's with no monitor and not changing or adding anything else.

I feel bad now. Upon checking again, I'd somehow managed to turn off the operating system without realising which makes it up to £381 total. Knowing this, maybe I can do better with an alternative setup...

Sorry :( If it makes you feel any better I spent like an hour trying to find the cheapest spec, and another half hour trying to find a better spec once I found my operating system mistake. But still haven't been able to beat the £381 system (this time I'm pretty damn sure it includes everything it needs to).

I suspect not, unless there is a text only version of Crysis. Then again, I was reading the other day that someone had ported Doom to the Vic 20, so who knows what's possible!

Odd, seems to almost the exact same spec as mine (only difference is a marginally faster CPU) yet a very different price. I can't seem to get the price of your quote by clicking on the link.

It's probably worth noting that PCS prices will fluctuate (potentially even on a day-to-day basis) so the exact same spec today might cost more or less tomorrow.

If you change the delivery to the Channel Islands it comes out as exactly 339.17 but that's cos it excludes VAT, so I don't think that really counts .....

Well, my original post didn't mention anything about VAT - and the Channel Islands option doesn't exactly exclude VAT, just the VAT is at 0%. So my feeling is that it does count. Just very very sneaky! However by reducing the CPU to the minimum I can even manage slightly cheaper!

Though by my reckoning when trying to find the cheapest PC, it should have the same default location to be sent to, so to make it fair if ex-VAT prices are allowed, any that did include VAT should have 20% of the price taken of for a fair comparison :)
