Case fan on new PC won't start without push

Hey guys, wondering if you fine folks could give me a hand. I just got my PC on Tuesday there and everything was working fine until yesterday when I saw that the back case fan wasn't spinning. The RGB lights were still on but the fan was totally still, so I opened up the case and as soon as I touched the fan it started up again. The problem seems to be persisting for now. Any advice on how to fix this issue?

Yeah, it was spinning when I first got it, it's only been the past couple of days that it's stopped. I've not used any software and everything seems pretty well connected, I checked the BIOS settings and my fan's set to run regardless of temperature. I can unscrew the glass panel and take a photo of the wiring if that might help?

It's most likely a fan issue then I imagine.

However - those extra fans are three pin 12 Volt DC fans - they can be controlled by varying the DC voltage to vary the speed. With 12 Volts they run at full speed, but they normally need at least 7 Volts supplied to get started from a standstill in the first place - and then once they are running they can keep going with a lower voltage than that. Sometimes, if the fan header they are plugged into isn't fully configured correctly, on startup it doesn't give enough voltage to get the fan turning, but if you give them a spin by hand they spin up and continue going.

Now, there is no reason to believe that this is the case with your fan as it worked before and you haven't changed anything, but it would be good to rule out a fan header issue. Can you trace the wires and see where the fan is plugged into? There will be a little name beside the plug - with your motherboard it is most likely plugged into CHA_FAN1 below and to the left of the CPU cooler - but might possibly be in CHA_FAN2 near the top of the motherboard to the right of the cooler. The last option which is harder to spot - is it might be directly supplied from the PSU itself via an adapter cable.

If you can see where it is, we might be able to have you try an alternate source and see if it runs OK from there.....

It looks like the wire runs behind the motherboard down to the PSU, I guess that makes it harder to move? Thanks for the help btw, much appreciated.

Yes that makes it a bit of a pain really. I not familiar with your case at all I'm afraid so I can't tell you what would be required to find where it's plugged in to the PSU supply

If it is powered directly from the PSU then I would say it is a faulty fan.

Just to be sure though - double check what is plugged into any other fan headers on the motherboard - if the faulty one is actually supplied from the PSU - they should correpond to any other fans you have - or all be clear except for the CPU fan if you have no other fans.

(Your header locations are as given above - and then additionally AIO_PUMP lives beside CHA_FAN1, the CPU Cooler Fan header lives beside CHA_FAN2 and CHA_FAN3 is at the bottom right edge of the motherboard also.)
