Can't find wireless card on Mirage laptop

Hi

I've just taken delivery of a Mirage laptop and can't find how to access the wireless network adapter to access the internet.

The only thing that appears in Network and Sharing Centre and in Device Manager is Realtek pcie gbe family controller.

Any ideas on where I'm going wrong?

Cheers

Matt

Is there not a function key to turn it on or a switch on the side. I know on my laptops one is fn+f11 and the other has a physical switch on it.

It wont be appearing in your control panel as its probably not switched on via fn+ whatever key the wireless icon is :0) , as mentioned by onlynik

Budgy, did you solve this? I have exact same problem with my Mirage delivered to me yesterday. All I can find in my devices is the realtek ethernet adapter as with you. Above comments don't help me.

Your card isn't listed as it isn't turned on.

You'll need to find out how to turn it on. It's possibly in teh manual.

try pressing fn+f12 (looking at the keyboard pictures, though the pics aren't great.

Or take a photo of the keyboard and post it on here.

OK, when you press FN+ any off the Function keys do you get any graphics on the screen?

Did PCS instal lthe OS or did you?

Do you have your driver CD handy?

Spoke to PCS this morning and they said it sounds like the drivers haven't been installed, as nothing appears in Device Manager for a wireless card, which is why the Fn+F12 isn't doing anything

But on the Drivers CD (which have to read on another computer because Mirage doesn't have CD drive) there are 4 different wireless drivers, one for an Atheros, one for a Broadcom, and two for Realteks, so I'm assuming it's one of the realteks as it's a Realtek Gigabit Ethernet Card, but haven't heard back yet from PCS as to which one to use ...

In device manager are there any unknown devices?

Copy the drivers on to usb so you access tehm from teh Mirage.

Manually installed the drivers for Realtek 8188CE which a bit of Googling seemed to suggest was the combined wireless/bluetooth card, drivers installed fine but no wireless network card appearing in device manager. Then copied the whole drivers CD onto a USB drive and ran the setup program, and went to Drivers / WLAN and that didn't do anything, so I assume I installed the right drivers, but I still can't get the Wireless Network Card to appear anywhere.

And there are no Unknown Devices in device manager either.

Spoke to PCS again and it turns out that a wireless card was not installed on the laptop.

At the time of ordering there must have been some issue with their website or ordering system and it dropped the wireless and bluetooth card, despite their being no option to do so on the order page - the only option under Bluetooth and Wireless is the ENIGMA GIGABIT LAN & WIRELESS 802.11N + BLUETOOTH 3.0.

So I've had to order one (wasn't charged for one on the original order) and install it when it arrives.

Giz, perhaps you had the same problem and the wireless card wasn't installed?

Yes, exactly the same with me as with you and I have also had to order the part to fix myself - I hope to get it tomorrow. I said it seemed unfair that what was listed under the spec when I looked through config, disappeared by the time I got it. I assumed it would still be there although it wasn't listed on the order itself. The trouble with assuming I suppose.
