Do you have any idea what make and model the drive is? "Stock" isn't much use as their stock drives change, I got mine replaced as it was faulty and got sent a totally different drive.

Usually, PC DVD drives have the same restrictions household DVD players have, ie, Region 2 (if you're in the UK), but the region can be change although there is normally a limit for the amount of times you can do this.

There is also software available out there that will allow your player to run as region-free. You'll have to google for it mate, there seems to be quite a bit of choice.

You can also flash the bios of your drive if you're confident, this is the main reason you'd need your make and model number, and can flash to region free bios'. You can also find these on google. :)

Hey dude thanks for your reply!

I see it now, the thing about changing the region 5 times, thanks, I'm sure that will be helpful for when I want to watch a DVD, and only 4 DVDs after that... then I guess i'm screwed. good old microsoft

Its not Microsoft who set the 5 region change limit. Also the 5 change limit is better than not being allowed to change at all. This is primarily to allow someone to move country with their computer and not have to buy a new dvd player. Once your in a particular country you should be buying and watching dvds of that particular region and hence why you wouldnt need to play dvds from other regions. The regions are set because of release dates in cinemas, this allows something to be still on at the cinema in one country and released on dvd in another without loosing sales at the cinema.
