Hello,

New to PC Specialist.

Profile : Web developer and gamer (Mostly FPS, racing games, Minecraft and Cities Skyline).

Trying to build a new PC. What do you think? For this price range (3000 to 3300 euros), can I get better ? Or as good but cheaper ? I don't mind a +/- 5% increase or decrease in performance.

Ideally the computer should be able to run Linux Debian in dual boot.
System on the 512 GB 960 Pro and storage on the 1 TB card.

The i7 7800x has been made more or less obsolete by the i7 8700k, which is overall cheaper and offers better performance.

The onboard sound from the motherboard is quite good. I suggest that you buy the PC without a sound card and try out the onboard sound. You will probably find it to be fine. If not, you can look into options like USB DACs, not just 'gamer' soundcards.

The 960 Evo is a lot cheaper and offers much of the performance of the 960 Pro.

Also for storage, you could just use an HDD instead of an expensive 1TB SSD.

If you want more than 512gb SSD space, you could buy a 1TB PM961 SSD, and an HDD for mass storage.

Going for a 1TB PM961 and a 2TB 7200rpm HDD, for example, would make the system 264€ cheaper.

Gaming won't benefit from over 16gb RAM. Though of course you are using this for development as well.

Thanks Oussebon for your advices :)

I didn't know for the 8700K, so I have to change many things including mother board.
I agree with the sound card, also I'm a music producer so I better lean toward a more professional soundcard.
About the storage I only want SSD. 2x 1 TB M.2 samsung 960 EVO could be okay instead of the 960 pro.
And about the 32 GB RAM, for a web develope it's not too much, 16 GB is acceptable (for the work I do) but not comfortable.

Improved configuration, after Oussebon advices. I kept the 960 Pro because there will be a lot of compilation stuff on it, so lot of writes.

I see that Intel 8700K uses an older socket (LGA1151) than the 7800X (2066). I want my system to be evolutive, so maybe it's better to choose the Socket 2066 with 7800X, even if the 8700K is more powerful and a bit cheaper.

About the motherboard, I'd like to make a SLI one day so need two PCI Express 16x.

I still ditched the soundcard.

No.

First, although the socket is called 1151, the 8700k is newer than the 7800x. Also, the 8700k isn't compatible with older 1151 socket motherboards.

And the 7800x gives lower performance in gaming - everything gives lower performance vs a 8700k:

No, you do not. It makes no difference running the GPUs of PCIe slots that are x16 or x8:

The PCIe lanes x16 vs x8 just don't bottleneck gaming performance. You do not need loads of PCIe lanes for SLI.

Honestly, it sounds like you are trying to find reasons to buy the 7800x just because it is more expensive and sounds like it should be better. But it simply is not.
