I was in the process of putting a vortex 3 elite together with a 680m sli when i found out the 780m is out soon. do you guys think the performance increase will be worth waiting for?

Were I in your shoes, and had no pressing need for a new laptop then I'd wait. I've seen different sources for a release date, but most seem to center around Q4 2013, which really isn't too long, however remember we're only likely to see a 10-15% performance leap. Just out of interest, why pack that much power into a laptop, is mobility a must?

I dont really have the room for a desktop and I just prefer laptops, I want to get the best gpu available because i want it too last as long as possible in terms of playing the latest games at high settings for a good few years.

Either of the set ups your proposed will still be running the most recent games for a good while. Look at it this way - the 680 sli is a far more advanced gpu solution than either xbox or sony have planned for thier consoles, and its for this hardware that the majority of games will be developed for over the next decade, so I'd imagine you will get a serious lifespan out of your laptop. With a power hungry beast like that though , your battery life will be pretty short so bear in mind you are tied into a power socket just like a pc user.

Do you care about a slight power decrease and minimal performance increase ?. If no then go gtx 680m sli.

I say this time and time again but you could stick two hd 7970m's in CF and get a 3840qm or a 3940xm but if you want to pay an extra 400 quid for better drivers then its up to you.

The 13.4 drivers have solved a lot of issues with the 7970m cards and AMD continue to pump out new beta drivers still improving them lots of support for the cards still.

As of now the hd 7970m with its new drivers beat the 680m on benchmarking.

Do you think the once the 780m is out they will drop the price of 680m or will it stay the same and the 780m will be dearer?

780m will have a hefty price tag (similar to the 680m on release) then the 680 may drop a little, but this is not guaranteed straight away.
