Hi,
I have no idea about building a pc lol but I think I might give it a go. I have watched loads of videos etc and people make it seem so easy???

Anyone on PCS built one? Any tips etc? Lol

I will make my mind up in the next few weeks and then keep a progress thread :)

I did build one but I spent less than £400. I wouldn't feel comfortable buying more expensive components if it was my first time. What is your budget?

I used to build most of my old PCs, but I stopped around the time SATA HDDs came in. Just make sure to do plenty of research before you begin.

Thinking of 3970x or 3960x, asrock extreme 9 or 11 if I can get one, corsair H100, not sure what GPU setup I want yet? So many to choose from.

I've built mine.

Pretty easy, just time consuming when it comes to cable management.

Get all the stuff connected up using the box from the mobo to rest it on, then power it up to make sure everything works. Then dissassemble and put into case. Not much more i can say really haha.

Make sure to be grounded at all times.

What are you planning to use it for?

Knew that was going to come up games mainly and photoshop. I know your going to say the CPU is to much? But I can get a really good price on the i7 3970x £550, unless you got one better in mind?!

GPU:
1 x titan
1 x 690
2 x 680
2 x 670, then upgrade to 690/titan in a year?

My main problem at the moment is what case to buy?! I have no idea?!

If you can get it for £550 that is a good price :) but the i7-3770 is still cheaper. It seems you have a big budget, going for 2xgtx 670s sounds good but in 1 year time I am sure the gtx 700 series will be available if you wish to upgrade. I will be a bit apprehensive on building such an expensive system if it is my first time.

True about the 700 series but sure it won't be much better than the titan? I heard that the 700 series are just rebrands of the 600's (maybe I'm wrong?)

Budget? I wouldn't say it massive but hope to get the most for what I pay for.

I know I'm very nervous about it, I was reading the build is easy but getting the bios to work 100% takes days

Does "no idea" mean you've not done anything inside a PC (say, replacing RAM or a hard disk), or you just haven't done the full job?

For me I learned in stages - things like hard disks, cards, RAM are relatively easy (thankfully the days of jumpers are over; though I find RAM and sometimes gfx cards can be a pain if it's a brand new slot); then I bought a kit where the CPU was already attached, so just had to stick it all together; then I did the full job.

Youtube has lots of useful videos (especially helpful for applying the thermal paste).

IMO, attaching an AMD CPU to the motherboard is much easier than Intel... (AMD just has two clips you have to push down either side; Intel comes on these four bouncy legs that you have to force through holes in the motherboard - this was a few years ago, not sure if the socket has changed since.)

I think like Keynes said I would be uncomfortable building something myself that is so expensive as a first project. Videos are one thing but they will always look easier than they actually are, heck I can't even take a keyboard out of a box as well as some of those guys do.

I plan to do it myself soon as a small project on something that's around £400 but I wouldn't like to do it on anything over the £500 mark yet. Have you definitely checked to see if it will even be cheaper to build it yourself? I know when I was buying mine PCS actually worked out cheaper than sourcing all the parts individually. It seems to be the more you spend the less worthwhile it is to self-build. Or are you purely doing it for experience? In which case I'd look at something not as intense.

Then again, I've done brief research and it does seem to be much easier with today's component with everything being tool-less, etc.

Remember that since these forums belong to PCSpecialist who sell custom built PCs/laptops, we are not really allowed to give advice on self-builds.

Well its mainly cos if we advise people on how to build their own PC's it could take business away from PCS which funnily enough they don't really want :)
No I understand that 100%, is that for help if I get stuck? not on what parts I need.
