Hello,

First time posting to forums just wondering what people think of this build.

The reason for this build is twofold;

Firstly I will be working from home creating 3D building models with Autodesk Revit and from then into rendering/visualisation/VR, etc...
Secondly I would also like to be able to play games like AC Valhalla at maximum settings to get the best out of my monitor.

I'm just wondering if there is anything in this build that seems like overkill ?
Do I need the X570 or would the B550 be perfectly fine. If there are savings to be made should I go for the Ryzen 9 5900x/5950x over the 5800x ?
I would have a preference for the RTX3080 over any other card but the ASUS RTX3080 is not in stock - are the Palit/Zotac branded ones as good ?
I haven't gone for liquid cooling as I don't plan to OC - I'm assuming the fan is adequate ?
OS would be on the M2 NVME SSD

Any comments would be appreciated.

Thanks for the quick ... that seems to be more in my budget and I will look at the alternate storage arrangement.

Regarding the B550 mobo - is it worth looking at this or should I stick with the X570 ?

Yeah that build looks great but I can't justify the extra cost at the moment - I'm working in Euro here :) - need to stick to approx 2600 GBP

Yeah there is, the B550 TUF is a great board but the X570 TUF suits the 5800x nicely.

A STRIXX B550 is arguably better than the X570 TUF of course but it's all trade offs and minor details. Very personal on what you actually need

I'd personally recommend the X570 TUF for the 5800x

One final question maybe about the RTX3080 - Palit/Zotac in stock it seems but ASUS out of stock - should I wait or is it only marginal difference between card manufacturers ? splitting hairs maybe as it seems any RTX3080 will be perfectly fine.

The ASUS is definitely a better card but it has significantly longer lead times. Most likely a couple months mate but it's up to you

Performance difference is minimal but the ASUS cards have better build quality generally and better cooling

Opinions on this build appreciated.

The reason for this build similar to original post;

Professional use - 3D building models with Autodesk Revit and from then into rendering/visualisation/VR, Enscape, Lumion, Photoshop, etc...
Personal use - Ability to play games like AC Valhalla / Control at ultra settings to get the best out of my monitor.

1. Should i stick with the Ryzen 7 5800x or bump it up to the Ryzen 9 5900x ?

2. Nvidia RTX3080 or AMD RX6800XT/RX6900XT ? I realise Nvidia has DLSS but is this only beneficial for mid-tier GPU's that struggle with AAA games and 4K gamers (I will be sticking with 1440p for the foreseeable future). Also my Dell S3220DGF has Freesync Premium PRO and not on Nvidias g-sync compatible listing - Is this an issue over deciding between the two GPU's ?


Any comments would be appreciated.

Given the drop in price from 3080 to 3060ti may be worth moving to 5900x on CPU especially for rendering as you suggested

Thanks for your input, will consider the 3060ti GPU and the bigger cooler. Any thoughts on the AMD equivalent (assuming the RX6700XT) ? My previous card was the RX5700XT and was plagued with issues. Does the 6000 series still suffer driver issues ?

I was considering the Gigabyte Mobo only because of the extra connectivity and the price increase was minimal over the other option ... Plan to use my Occulus Rift so need lots of usb ports.
