This build is for mostly Unreal Engine and other programs, so that’s a lot of rendering. I also want to game at 4K60 if possible, will this work out good. I’m also getting a really good G-Sync 4K monitor with 1ms response, 60hz refresh rate, etc. That makes my price just over £3000, I may be willing to go to about £3500 maybe? Thanks for helping!

The core spec looks fine to me.

I'd drop the WD Blue SSD, and go for the 960 Evo as it's a lot faster - or if it seems to expensive, go for an 850 Evo from the Hard Drive section as it will be a little faster and doesn't waste an M.2 slot. Plus it bundles a free game.

If your rendering programs benefit from more CPU cores, you could consider a build with an i9 7900x, which seems to make things ~£550 more expensive.

But that would only be worth considering if you're sure the extra cores would be a real asset for your Unreal/rendering work. The 8700k would be a little better for gaming, and obviously a lot cheaper.

I don’t see the point of going from six to ten cores, especially since PCS Tech Support said that UE4 only requires 4 cores, they said the 8700k would be suitable. Also, unless the programs are going to make significant use of the extra cores, then I’d rather have the i7 8700k because it will have better single, dual and quad core performance than that of the 7900X, but if you have a reason, I’m more than happy to choose it if:
1. Rendering is much more efficient
2. Gaming performance isn’t hindered a lot (in 4K)

I don't have a reason, I'm not familiar with unreal engine or the rendering software you use (blender would make huge use of the etxra cores, but that's about as far as my knowledge goes). As I say, I just presented it as an option in case you knew that your software would want more cores :)

Yeah, you’re right about the cores :) I might stick with the 8700k. However, if I ever feel I’m lacking, can I send it back for a processor exchange, or can I just sell it and buy a new one?

Another question in general about the forums, how do I get reputation?

However, if I ever feel I’m lacking, can I send it back for a processor exchange,
No. A new CPU would require a new mobo, and that's not a service PCS offer.
or can I just sell it and buy a new one?
Yes, you can dismantle the PC, swap components etc as you like. Note that changing the motherboard would invalidate the warranty with PCS (unsurprisingly).

Another question in general about the forums, how do I get reputation?
People get rep when others give it to them for posts they find helpful. Rep is given by pressing the 6-pointed star under a post and adding rep.

Thanks a lot, I don’t plan on changing the motherboard, thank the lord, but I probably would sell the 8700k on and buy a high-core i9.

You would need to change the motherboard to fit an i9 7900x - it's a different socket to the 8700k.

Rip. I guess I’ll just keep it then. Though it may not be exceptionally fast, it won’t underperform, right?
