Hi can someone help please,

I was using my PC as normal when the screen went off a couple of times returning saying display driver kernel error or something...

Then it happened and i got a blue screen mentioning something about a display driver but wasnt on long enough to see exactly what it said. Now my PC wont even boot in safe mode, just get the same blue screen all of the time. The error code is;

0x0000007b (0xFFFFF880009A97E8, 0xFFFFFFFFC0000034, .. then all 0's

i have tried the system repair, restore etc etc but nothing works.

Any ideas? I really dont want to have to do a clean windows install as I have stuff on the hd that is not backed up and I need.

Thanks

Do you have a spare computer that you could take the HDD out of broken machine and put in other. Then you could take files off it, format it and do fresh install.

Is the onboard graphics card disabled in Bios as this if switched off can make this happen when switching from one to other. I have had issues like that before where I change the GPU but for some reason not all files/drivers are removed and still cause blue screen.

With GPU removed, remove ALL power from computer and leave off for few minutes.
  • In the BIOS set the boot order to boot first from the CD/DVD Drive, insert the Windows full version installation DVD or a created repair CD and restart the PC.
  • At the Select Language screen click next.
  • At the next screen click Repair your Computer.
  • For a Windows created repair CD, after the "Press any key ... " black screen there will be a Loading Files screen.
  • Click Next for this System Recovery Options dialog box.
  • Select "Use Recovery Tools" and be sure to make note of the Location drive letter as it probably will not be C: and the correct drive letter must be entered in the following steps; then click Next.
  • At this System Recovery Options dialog box click Command Prompt.
  • In the command window that opens type "sfc /scannow /offbootdir=f:\ /offwindir=f:\windows" (without quotes) and hit the <enter> key, be sure to use your drive letter, where mine is F: for this demonstration yours may not be the same.
  • You will get a blinking curser while it checks and attempts to repair any issues it may find, it could take quite a bit of time to complete.
  • To close the command window after the scan type exit and hit the <enter> key.

Restart computer in normal mode (if it does) and if works see if there is a full driver remover program for the GPU you have. and if so run it. If not maybe use ccCleaner do clean your registry.
Download new GPU drivers and hope for the best.

If this doesnt work then yes id give PCS a call in the morning.

Thanks for the tips,

I have managed to re-install windows and save my files from windows.old.

now though I cant see one of my hard drives, i have windows installed on a 600gb hard drive, and 2 x 2tb storage drives but I can only see 1 (However both were visible when deciding where to install windows).

I also have the 20gb ssd cache, how do set this up? Should the windows install of been on that?

Thanks

Unfortunately I didn't see this in time, a lot of the times a reboot of Windows would be a good idea, unfortunately in this instance you have got an Intel caching drive, the problem we have now is when your system crashed, the reason it did not start into Windows was because to use the SSD cache we have to set the motherboard to RAID mode instead of AHCI mode, this option must have been reset when you had the crash. The system did not recognise the type of RAID storage driver which was in use previously as the motherboard had told it to look for something else.

All we had to do to resolve this was set the motherboard's BIOS back to RAID mode, unfortunately the reinstall has scuppered our chances of doing this, we will have to reinstall Windows again to do this, and we can help you with this tomorrow if you want, but it may need a bit of talking through. There is also a chance we may lose whatever is on the 600GB drive, so please back up.

Remember people, 99% of the time there is a way of getting around a reinstall, no matter how bleak it looks, having worked previously for a company who reinstalled at the drop of a hat, I always say a reinstall should be the last result, as quite frankly it's a ballache.

Get in touch with us tomorrow Davey, we'll sort out your reinstall, get your SSD cache drive going again and find out what caused the first issue.

I'm not having a do, it's just good to be patient on these matters!

JakAttack I noticed you have the Creative X-Fi Titanium SC. Did you have trouble installing it on the win 7 64bit??

I have a younger SC model with the Audigy2 Platinum ex and had serious trouble getting it sorted. Found excellent drivers in the end. But I was wondering because my friend has the same card as you and is having issues getting it to run on 64bit.

No it was fine, haven't had driver problems since the Vista days, just make sure you use the latest ones from the website.

No problem, I'm glad it's getting sorted as I noticed you just spoke to Wayne, so hopefully you'll be up and running by mid-day! I very much doubt you were the first impatient PC user ;) The main thing is, it's getting sorted.

Ahh but the Audigy Platinum2 is not made for 64bit neither is X-Fi Titanium from what I can see. There are no drivers on the website that do what the card can do. Most consoles are gone like the EAX and surround sound. Also with official drivers could only get 5.1 not 7.1 under 64bit (stated on the website)

Been using creative for many many years now. I record and make music so didnt wanna get rid of the external port and really good sc. Found unofficial drivers in the end. All good.

Very few devices are made specifically for 64-bit, the difference is all the features are available on 64-bit systems for the X-Fi Titanium, I know this as I own one on a 64-bit system, there is nothing missing from it.

I can't ocmment on the Audigy Platinum 2 as I've not owned one.

Well I rang PCS yesterday and they were very helpful, got my system up and running again. Then after I loaded everything back on yesterday, last night I set to SLi mode and ran Battlefield 3, again the screen went off and i'm back to square 1 of not being able to boot windows.

Could it be the cache drive causing this, very frustrating paying for 2 3gb 580's and getting this problem.

Any more advice on what could be the cause of the problem?

Wont be able to ring PCS till around 5pm tonight.

Thanks

It may be just the crash that is causing the problem and resetting the BIOS, try going into the BIOS, go to Advanced Mode, then Advanced, then SATA Configuration, then change the SATA Mode to RAID again, this should get you straight back in.

I think it's the GPU(s) causing the problems, has this crash just started happening recently?

This is the FIRST time I have posted in a thread that had nothing to do with original post and it was a simple question. Hardly Hijacking a thread. Original posted still getting help inc from me.

Na I could tell, still wanted it known I dont hijack and Im grumpy today (to much work) :)

Anyway the above link you sent just brings me to the main page. Also I have downloaded the drivers from there as I said and they only allow max of 5.1 surround sound so they are useless to me. Thanks though

Known Issues:

Driver decoding of Dolby/DTS audio does not work with Windows Media Player 12 in Windows 7
Applications from the original Sound Blaster Audigy CD will not work with this download on Windows 7 and Windows Vista.
Users are advised to use Audio Console included in this download to change speaker configurations.
Gameport is not supported in Windows 7, Windows Vista and Windows XP Professional x64 Edition.
6.1 speaker mode is not supported by Windows 7 and Windows Vista.

PS: My deepest apologies to original posted of thread for the Hijack.
