Black Screen when I Alt+Tab (Brand New Defiance III)

Hey guys,

Just wondering if anyone can shed some light on this problem for me.

I got my shiny new Defiance III on Monday (YAY!) and this is the only problem I am having with it.

When I am in game or in another program and I hit Alt+Tab to switch out to my web browser (Chrome) i can see the Windows 10 taskbar and the surround of the browser window but the whole inside is a solid black!! If i minimize and maximize it comes back or resize the window too. But clicking in the black area still presses things on the webpage (quick links, ads etc.).

Has anyone else come across this issue? I had a quick Google and came across something saying to change the refresh rate so i changed that from 60Hz to 48Hz but the problem still persisted

If anyone can help i would greatly appreciate it as while not life ending it will annoy me if i can't fix it

Thanks in advance!!

Are you running in discrete (Nvidia only) mode or on Optimus? It might be a driver issue - either Nvidia or Intel Graphics. Suggest install latest of both of these drivers if you haven't done already. Personally as I use my laptop plugged in, I use discrete mode only and so far have not had any issues with alt-tab.

Thanks for the reply.

The laptop just stays in "Gaming Mode" as set by the Control Centre application. I checked the driver for my GTX 1070 and it is fully up to date. I will have a look at the Intel driver when i get home to see if this is too. I always play with mine plugged in also.

How do i change to "discrete mode"?

You should find the option in your Clevo control centre application under the "Gaming" menu there is an option on the left to choose "MSHybrid" aka Optimus mode (where the system switches between Nvidia GPU and Intel GPU depending on need - essentially to save battery power) and "Discrete" (Where the system runs only using the Nvidia GPU).

You need to reboot every time you switch to a different mode. A benefit of discrete mode is that the Gsync capability of the monitor is accessed, as this doesn't work when using MSHybrid (aka Optimus) mode.

Personally as I never really need to worry about conserving battery power (as I'm plugged in) I just run in discrete mode.
