When it comes to adding peripherals (such as keyboards, mice and speakers) to your custom configuration at present the standard drop down menu can be a little unfriendly because you might not know what a "G500" laser mouse looks like, for example.

We've been working on a new design for the peripherals section that allows you to easily view items and add these to your order, allowing you to make a better informed decision on what to order, whilst keeping the whole process as simple as possible. It's not yet launched as it's still in test mode. Can you have a look and let us know what you think? Any issues, suggestions or bugs?

Just click on any peripheral item...

Big improvement. Looked through a few of the options and it flowed well, options well laid out.

Nicely done

Looks great. Personally I don't feel you require the preliminary "choose a brand" screen when looking at monitors, mice etc. I think that sort of search function is best placed elsewhere. My 2p.

You could think about having the cool product view for other parts also,I'd like to ogle my GPU - good for folks who arent necessarily very pc literate.

It's user friendly unlike some I have seen recently. When I was researching before the purchase I almost started praying 20 minutes into C*********'s site - what a mess, far too complicated. I don't want to have to open 3 bottles of wine to configure a laptop. N******* wasn't complicated enough. Dell appears to have decided what everyone's spec should be which is very arrogant of them and there was far too little customisation available. And even with 20% discount it was expensive. Buying a decent Asus seems next to impossible if you are looking for a laptop without extending your mortgage by 5 years.

On yours I would like to see options priced individually on the drop-downs. It lacks consistency. The GPUs have no pricing on drop downs or the '?' or am I missing something?

Ultimately, I can look up what something looks like on Google but I cannot find out the price of your GPUs unless I select them and look at the sub total can I? Also, take some of the specs from the forums and have them as standard configurations and show real life FPS for in-game play, say in WoW for example, so that people don't overspec if they know nothing about this stuff - most of us don't.

I think the new selection mechanism looks good, I agree with black dog there is no need for the initial 'select brand' bit though.

Very good, will make it much easier for new and old PCS'ers

@wake,

I don't work for pcs, but I think that some items don't have prices because those items often go up or down in price dependent on the current global climate

The only point I need to add so far is that the initial brand selection has been designed in because we will be vastly increasing the number of keyboards, mice and monitors we sell. :D

Our prices do fluctuate on a weekly basis to provide the best offer to the customer.

Like it Emporer PCS! It'll no doubt be a fully implemented part of the configuratron when I come to change my PC (whenever that might be...) :D

Not that I want to second guess you guys, but if someone doesn't know what a certain mouse is, they might not know which brand they want to go for. Maybe it might be easier if you group the mice in a price bracket as opposed to brand. Say something along the lines of : Entry level £1-£30, Casual Gaming £30-£70, etc.

If someone knows which brand of mouse they want I would guess they probably know which mouse they want specifically. If they don't know then they might know what sort of mouse they want (or how much they want to pay)?

Just a thought :)

I think the customers who aren't sure can click "view all brands" and make a decision based on this.

You missed ********* on one of the other brands I mentioned or does Dell not count as competition?

Heh yeh, doubt they want people trying to actually order stuff on the test site...would play havoc with lead times! :D

I had the same facepalm moment until I saw the all brands bit!

Good idea though guys, definitely makes things seem easier.

When you click "add to order" it should select this item on the drop down box and be present when you proceed. Please can you check this and confirm if it is working for you? It's working for us in IE9, IE9 compatability mode, Chrome, Safari and Firefox - all using Windows 7.

Its not working for me, I click add to order and nothing happens (ie the window stays open and the drop down box retains "NONE"). I'm currently using Chrome on Windows XP (but I am at work, so that probably has a lot to do with it). I'll try again when I get home and let you guys know if its working then.
