best pc case? + decisions been made :P

Hey guys long time!! so I have been away for a while but now I am back, the first major change since I was going to buy my rig is that I am now going to attempt to build it my self - :()
I have picked all most every part outer than the pc case ^^ - any ideas of good pc cases - I had a look at two cases the nzxt phantom 820 full tower case - and the haf-x case - any suggestions?? price can be anything up to £200
the 2nd big change is that I decide to go with 2 4gb 670's instead of 680s since every forum and person I have spoken to says the upgrade from 670-680 is not worth the extra @200 - and the 3rd major change is that I will not be having a hard drive but 2 SSD's. I would just like to thank everyone on pcs for helping my out with my build ideas, and I cant wait to get ordering my parts. I will put a list of all the components I am buying for the pc in a bit - but right now a decision on the case must be made!! :) so please leave some suggestions ^^

lol not trying to throw a spanner in the works... but you may as well wait for the new 770's instead of blowing 600+ on two 4gb 670s!

^^ any news on a release date + price?? :0

I think the end of May but price no idea. For peace of mind and avoid any issues I would suggest getting the system from PCS especially if you are spending so much money.

hum I could buy all the parts bar the gpu and then buy either one depending on price - and my neibour who builds pc's a lot said he will build it with me - I would love to learn how to build one and now is a perfect chance :p I will however be ordering another pc from pc specialist later on this year for my family since I wont be at home to build it :)

Cant fault your logic really, but I'd consider getting your rig from PCS and building a far smaller and cheaper rig so that if you have any issues, you are covered. Your friend who builds PC's a lot won't be able to help much if something fries. Admittedly you'll be covered under the warranties (manufacturers) but they might argue it was the fault of the PC builder (in this case... you).

Just a thought, it won't be much cheaper to get the parts yourself (I'd wager its probably the same price....)

I second this, the warranty becomes exponentially more valuable the more expensive your pc gets. I saved more building a 500 pound pc myself than I would have if I built the £1000+ rig I got from PCS, I've checked this two or three times at different points in the year. However if you want the "build a pc" experience then you should go for it, its very rewarding. Personally I caved an threw together some budget parts that I wasn't quite as attached to as my premier components.

Its estimated that the 770 will come in about £350 here

As far as case selection goes I love the Arc Midi R2

Its a mid tower but i've seen sli setups in here on r/build a pc.

ah I see were you both are coming from, would a company really say its my fault lol?? and the parts are around the same price but its more the fact I get to decide what parts I put in if I want asus or gigabyte or Palit etc etc and the fact that I can put in a better cooler like the noctua nh-d14 one and stuff, small things but it makes the difference.

This is a good point. I would rather determine the manufacturer of my GPU as there is a considerable difference. You could aways find the best deal on your gpu of choice and have it delivered to PCS if you want to go that way.

anouther thing I have just thought of is pcs warrenty lasts for 3 years labour I will learn how to do that and 1 years parts - surly if something is going to go wrong with the part it will go wrong within the first week of using it - so if the part I buy lasts for a year and then there is a problem I will still have to fork out for a new one it would just mean that pcs would fit it for me instead of me fitting it - so really the warranty pcs provide I already have... and in the future when I want to upgrade I would again have to pay pcs to remove and insert parts.. idk correct me if I am wrong.

A component can fail at any time really,I had two hard drives replaced, one after 6 months and one after about 9 months. There's also a good chance something or other could fail after a year or two, personally,I would go for the best cover you can afford.
The silver warranty gives 1 year free collection and return and the standard warranty 1 month free collection and return.
Standard warranty / 1 month free collection and return./1 year parts/3 year labour.
Silver warranty / 1 year free collection and return/1 year parts/3 year labour.
Gold warranty/ 2 year free collection and return/2 year parts/3 year labour.
Platinum warranty/ 3 year free collection and return/3 year parts/3 year labour

parts can go wrong any time, I've had

- Two OCZ SSD's fail... sold the third on ebay.
- Hx750 PSU ports fault
- fan controller faulty
- PAlit GTX 580 suddenly died.... took 5 months to get it repaired.two or three return rma's....
- coolit eco burst..
- anything can fail any time mate... If you build yourself... go with manufacturers that have decent customer server/warranty.... such as Corsair and Evga.

that is why I am choosing the parts very carefully - I wonder if you know how I would go about returning a product if it is faulty for example - say I buy a samsung ssd from ebuyer or amazon I get it home and it dosent work - would I just send it back to amazon or ebuyer in exchange for a new one - or will I have to go and call samsung directly and they sort it out, this is the only thing worrying me - if I can just return it to ebuyer or what not I will post my spec and get on with buying it all :D

Depends on how long ago you bought it really, if its within 6 months (I think...) you can easily return it to the seller. After that you might have to request an RMA from the manufacturer to deal with the faulty item. Still you shouldn't really have any issues, as you know, parts can (and do) fail so the manufacturers/sellers are aware of this and know how to deal with it :)

If I were you, I wouldnt build the system your self...

-what if your "friend" messes up installing the cpu? bends a few pins or whatever? hes not bothered causes its not his, hes not liable... your stuffed... the seller wont be interested either...
-what if something does go wrong in, say your mobo again, then you have to take the whole thing apart, and try and sort out an RMA with the seller... who may or may not shirk the responsibility or argue it was your fault?
-or if your new palit 770 dies.. one year after having it... enjoy paying to send that to Asia/North America... (or whatever part it is)

You have a decent budget... for peace of mind and security.. . I'd get a build from PCS with two years warranty. Any dramas just give them a call.

100% agree with tom's comments. To reiterate something metioned earlier, if you wanted to learn how to build a car... you wouldn't buy bits for a ferrari and try to build that first time even if you know a guy who's built cars before... You'd start with something cheap :) Just a thought.
