Battery problem with Vortex III Elite

Hello guys,

Don't know if anyone has had this problem before but here it is: I have used my Vortex III Elite for a week now, and tonight there was, unfortunately, the first problem. I was browsing the internet, so nothing too strenuous and suddenly the display went dim as if it was on battery although the laptop was connected to the UFO surge protector I have, which was connected to the power socket. I took a look at the battery led indicator and it went from green (fully charged) to completely off. I thought it might have been a power outage and that's why it acted as if it were on battery but there are 3 reasons I'm not confident this was the problem:
1. Before the display dimmed, there was a crrh crgh noise (from somewhere inside the laptop)
2. Other electrical devices in the house, including my other laptop, kept on functioning normally, and the lights didn't go off
3. I had to restart the laptop before it recognized that it was connected to the power outlet, instead of using the battery. And after an hour, the same thing happened AGAIN: crr noise, the battery led went off again and the display dimmed.
I disconnected the power cable from it and plugged it back in, this time the led went back on...

I'm very disappointed, what could this have been? Could it be the UFO surge protector that I bought from PCS? Or is it the battery?

Try plugging straight into a wall socket to determine if the surge protector is the problem.

i thought of that, and i will do it. If I wont have any problems in the next few days, it's probably the surge protector. Guess what :)) while I was writing this post, it happened again: the display went dim, no crr sound this time, and the led went off. I immediately disconnected the plug directly from the surge protector (and not from the back of the laptop as before) and the plugged it in the surge protector again and the led went back on. I think that the surge protector detects some kind of false positives or voltage drops and disconnects the power to the laptop :-?
