I have recently bought Optimus II laptop. Here is a copy of my RMA letter I have sent today, I hope they will cope with this problem the right way from now on.

"Dear Pc Specialist,

I am utterly disappointed with the product and the service I have received from you. I decided to buy a laptop from your website as you had very good reviews. I must say that my experience has a been a big disappointment so far. I have ordered a laptop in September, it took you a month to send it over as some of the components weren't available. When I called you, your colleague promised me to include some games with the laptop, but unfortunately nothing came through to this day. When I finally received it, I was really disappointed when I saw the state of my brand new £1000 laptop. I have attached images of the state of the laptop when unboxing it:

Parts weren't properly screwed and there was a massive gap at the bottom. Your colleague said to me that this happened during the transit, but it's hardly believable as I could see that the bottom just wasn't properly screwed.
I have been using this laptop for only 3 weeks, but it seems it already overheats. I have tried to play Battlefield 3 game, but the laptop just simply crashed and turned off about 8-9 times during the gameplay. I know that certain mechanisms are in place to make sure overheating doesn't cause permanent damage, but just after 3 weeks of using!? I never put anything in front of the fan to make sure the air circulation is fine, in one occasion I had my phone about 4-5 inches far from the fan and the phone was just roasting after a while. I am working as a graphic designer, I change laptops every year or so and to be honest, this is the poorest quality laptop I have ever put my hands on. The sound of the speakers is REALLY REALLY bad, I mean really bad honestly. Webcam is far worse than on my previous laptop. Overall the plastic case seems very fragile, when you knock on the surface next to the touchpad you can hear all different kinds of sound. I have also installed every possible driver from the CD I have received and my NUM PAD on the right side of the keyboard still doesn't work. This is definitely not what I expected for my £1000. I honestly feel I have been ripped off. That is why I would like to return this product and not to receive any replacement. Thank you."

Kind Regards,
Samuel Lorincik

We're very sorry that you're not happy with your laptop and I can understand your frustration based on the pictures. However, we don't send out laptops in this state, it's clear that it has been knocked during delivery.

Given that you have had the laptop for 3 weeks, I assume that the damage has now been rectified?

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion but you're the first customer to write a bad review of this laptop and hundreds of our customers have written positive reviews complementing the build quality, aesthetics, sound quality and touchpad. Have a look at the reviews on our forums here:

Please contact us on 0844 499 4000 and we will arrange to collect the laptop from your premises and put right any problems you are experiencing as quickly as possible. Once again we're sorry that you're not happy but we'd like to have the opportunity to put this right for you.

Bit surprised about this really. My laptop arrived around 4 weeks ago (I think, time flies) in perfect condition. If it had arrived in the state of the pictures it would have gone straight back, so why didn't it? Technology is wonderful, but you need to treat it gently and the state of that laptop looks like it had a serious accident, which is probably why it is overheating now and causing problems.

As for the quality, well I got a mere Genesis since cost was an issue. However, over the years I've had quite a few laptops and while the casing might not look bells and whistles it is absolutely fine and does what it should do and I think it looks good. Speakers, well laptops are notorious for poor sound quality and the camera, well must agree with you, I look my age so I've turned it off! Anyway, I thought graphic designers stuck to expensive Macs.

If the damage was done during delivery then it could quite easily be damaged inside aswell, that might explan some of the problems with the overheating etc?

If it was damaged out of the box then i would have phoned PCS right away

in any event, and as we always do, we will put it right. Things do go wrong, and if both parties are reasonable it will get sorted.

+1. Why wasn't it sent back straight away?

I've had my Vortex II for around four months and it's been fine. When I getmy hands on Skyrim, we'll see about overheating but so far nothing's taxed it.

Given the amount of positive reviews online about this notebook model, there is no reason why you should be scared after reading 1 review about a laptop that's been damaged during delivery.

PC Specialist seem to have very good reviews and lots of satisfied customers. I honestly don't want to cause any trouble but I was really upset about the whole thing ( product and service ). There were multiple issues which forced me to decide to return this laptop. I wanted to get a feedback on this forum during the weekend as there are no phone operators during Saturday afternoon.

I have installed my first game ( Battlefield 3 ) just last week, and found out about the problem just recently, that's why I didn't return it straight away, if I knew about it, I definitely would. My laptop simply turns off or freezes when playing the game. This has never happened with any laptop I used to own.

I'm not going to lie seeing those pictures at first really scared me too (Laptop currently in productions), however the way PCS handle things seems to be very professional, on almost all sites I would fully expect any kinda of bad review/post/experience to be deleted and put under the rug but here we see they actual care and want to sort the problem out so you really have nothing to worry about man. Hopefully the OP gets everything sorted it, all the best.

You say that you have recieved bad service from PCS, but the only thing I have heard that could be called bad service is the free games that didnt turn up, and PCS have offered to correct any problems you have.

Also are you certain that its a heat issue that is causing it to turn off? have you actually monitored the temps, and if so then what were they?

I do wonder why it wasn't sent back straight away also!

I had problems with my Optimus II, due to a dodgy ethernet connection on the motherboard it seemed. I had some troubles sending it back, due to a system error somewhere, meaning the courier didn't have enough of my details, or enough information, and while I was angry at the time, once the thing finally got to PCS, it was repaired and sent back very quickly. They will fix your problems, don't worry!

I've not been to my home address to collect it yet, but I imagine everything should be hunky dory now... very excited to get it back this weekend!
