Hi,

I bought a Vortex Series: 17.3" a year ago now, and it contains 2 x 7970 Radeons. Pretty simple question, is it possible to open up these laptops and replace the gfx cards with an updated laptop gfx card or switch it to a Nvidia gfx card?

Or is there a service that PC Specialist offer which can do this?

I would like to take out the radeons and put in an nvidia card, because still to this day I get the odd blue screen with the radeon's. Working in IT its not such a big deal to me, but it can be annoying

Thanks

PCS offer this service on the upgrade page.

If you log into your account it should eb on the right "upgarde Existing"

There you will find options to upgrade should it be available.

Although these cards are extremely to replace physically the BIOS Software side is a different story.

It is dependant on support from Clevo to release a BIOS to mach the Chasis with the new GPU therefore it might not be possible with some.

For example i have the Vortex 2 which has a HD6990m in it however this was the last of that generation of GPU and therfore Upgrade isn't an option for me at all.

Also sock levels may be an issue, if you can only change to the Nvidia equivelent of that generation then PCS may not have stock.

I have seen Mobile GPU for sale on the web but they are very expensive and there is no guarantee that you will get a BIOS to work with it.

Only if the chassis supports the gpu you wish to add. Best thing to do is to contact PCS directly, not sure they offer upgrade options for your chassis

On a similar note are you using beta drivers at all that are causing the BSOD?

As a trouble shooting measure what i would do is Uninstall all exisgint AMD GPU drivers and download the latest Official Non Beta Drivers from the AMD website and try that, it may solve your problem.

You may have tried this already though so sorry if you have.

JUST A "Q" If we go on the upgrade of say a gfx sli config on a laptop, etc. Does the customer get the old gfx back etc, or do PCS offer a trade in for your old ones ??????

If not may be an idea for them.

No trade, you get it back. don't think any retailer would want to keep a depreciated/outdated gpu with low resale value.
