Any suggestions for a free / cheap drive image utility

Hi,

I think it is about time I started taking a ghost backup image of my primary SDD... Can anyone suggestion any good free / cheap utilities that will do the job? I don't need anything fancy, just a utility that can take a ghost image of the drive and back it up to another drive, and then rebuild from the image.

Thanks in advance
Ian

what os do you have ? - windows 7 ultimate/buisness / windoes 8 pro ? , if its either of these then just use windows backup , been using it for years , very reliable & easy to use

( it is in windows 8 pro , but its buried deep in the os , but you can do system images with it like the previous 7-ultimate / buisness OS)

It doesn't work for me. I have the same problem reported by a number of people on the internet. If I try to make an image it says the partition is not big enough, even if I try to save a 40gb image on a single partition 1TB drive (Windows 7).
I use Macrium (free) and that works.

Convert the disk where the image will be saved to a "dynamic" disk type , sorts that issue out , still works exactly the same as a simple volume
(it will wipe everything on the drive though)
