Another Optimus V vs Vortext IV LE topic. Plus some other stuff.

Yeah, I know, there's a lot of these topics, but it's a hard choice. Plus I have some other questions.

So ideally I'm looking for something under £1000, as I get all twitchy when the price hits quadruple digits. It will be used for quite a lot of gaming, but I don't necessarily require Ultra settings on everything. I'm primarily a console gamer, so the laptop will be mostly used for MMOs (FFXIV is the main thing I'm looking at), and RPGs in general, where the PS3 ports usually range from "decent, but lacking in some features" (Dragon Age) to "completely unplayable" (Skyrim).

I've been doing a bit of research on GPUs, and think the 765M should be up to the task of what I require, at least for now. That, 8GB of Ram, and the i4700MQ form the core of whatever system I've experimented with on the configurator, it's just the other specifics that are a problem.

So, the questions:

1. The Vortex is obviously the more expensive of the two. Do people think that the extra cooling and ability to upgrade the GPU are worth the price tag? I'm not worried about the weight.

2. On hybrid SSHD drives, is there a noticeable improvement in performance over a normal HD? I can't afford to go full SSD and HD combo, but the 500GB SSHD drives are only £20 more than the same size HD drive. Worth it, or shall I just go for a 750GB HD drive (which costs the same as the 500GB SSHD)?

3. Dead Pixel guarantee - anyone know any stats for the failure rate on Clevo screens? They ISO Class 0, Class 1, Class-0-marked-as-Class-1-to-cover-themselves, or what?

4. I'm able to run most of my online gaming off a wired ethernet connection. Presumably this means I don't need to pay for a more expensive wireless card? I'll only be using the innate wireless for browsing, anything more serious and I'll hook up the big yellow cable.

5. Cooling stands: cooling is a big worry of mine, as my flat has a tendency to turn into a dust-filled oven during summer. Do any of them offer noticeable improvement?

Think that's it. Might have more questions later.

Thanks for your help, forumers!

1- I think that depends on you, are you planning to upgrade the gpu?
2- yes, a hybrid hdd will be faster than a standard hdd.
