Decent attempt, but could do with optimisation.

The 12700k is very hot, you’ll want a better cooler, at least a H100i to keep temps cool.

The RAM is a bit slow by modern standards, 3200mhz is definitely the sweet spot.

Not sure why you need a 4TB HDD but it will be quite slow at 5400RPM. What’s the reasoning behind that much storage?

The PSU will barely handle the 3070ti. 850W is the minimum I recommend these days and I would be leaning towards 1000W as future gen GPUs are forecast to be incredibly power hungry.

Silver warranty is also well worth it.

I wouldn't lay my hat on the Gigabyte board either, personally.

If the budget is there to allow to make the improvements to the foundation of the spec then I think the CPU/GPU combination is pretty decent. If something needs to give then I would lower the CPU to the 12600k in order to make the advised changes.

Thanks for the replies.
While used for flight sim, I hope to storage and edit some photos and video from my DJI Mini 2.

I take your point on the 5400 v 7200 speed and have changed it to a 2TB 7200 HD.

I will change the quote to reflect the other advice as well.

Thanks all

Hi,

Back again with a new spec. Again my main interests here is Flight Sim and followed by Photo editing with GIMP.
I have 2 x 1440p monitors already.

Or should I wait for the AMD 3D V Cache CPUs to launch????

Any views?

I am in a PC-build decision dilemma.
I keep swapping between the AM5 platform (7700x or 7950x) and 13th gen (13700k or 13900k) for my new build.
I will likely pair it with a RTX 4070. Up to now all my PCs were intel but from reading different sites, the 13th Gen is 1700 pin and these m/boards could be replaced by the new Intel 14th Gen which will require a new mother board and this could be as soon as end of 2023, leaving me with no upgrade path.
While I understand the AMD5 motherboard could be around for another 2-3 years.

I intend to play games (MSFS 2020) and photo edit 50/50 time wise.

What do you think??

Thanks

Liam

I think anyone when they mention MSFS, you'll always be recommended an AMD 7x00x3D chip, they are the best by a country mile for MSFS, while still performing well in multicore that photo editing requires.

The 5800X3D is still the current king for MSFS, not by a small margin either

But they're just about to release the new 7800X3D on April 6th, so only a few weeks away, and is expected to beat the 5800X3D by around 20% uplift
