Another issue with my new pc!

Yeah, so this is probably about the 5th thing which is not right with my new computer. It's the monitor, I have the 24" Widescreen TFT 1920 X 1080 5MS, DVI, 23.6" Panel. So surely via my control panel on Adjust Screen Resolution 1920 x 1080 (Full 1080) should be a option. However I can only choose from two screen resolutions surely, there should be wayy more considering the size of my screen. I should be able to have my screen in 1920 x 1080 and all those below it. The highest option I can have is 1024 x 768 which looks pathetic.

I'm seriously beginning to consider whether my purchase from PCS was such a good one afterall, I've seemed to have problem after problem after problem :(

Thanks in advance for any help :)

Sorry to hear about this Ian. Can you confirm if your graphics driver is installed? I'm not sure if you've had to reload windows due to your previous issues and this might have been missed off? What is your display listed as? And how is it connected?

I believe the Graphics Driver is installed, I have the Nvidia icon in my taskbar and when I do a dxdiag it says under Graphics that I have the Nvidia Geforce 570, etc. I didn't have to reloads windows, nope. The old problems with chequerboard freezing patterns etc still happens occasionally, but less than it use to. The display says '1. Generic Non-PnP Monitor' and the Resolution currently is on '1024 x 768' Orientation 'Landscape'

Seems odd, can you go to Device Manager, have a look in Display Adapter,s and tell me what comes up there and if there are any issues reported?

Yeah, I don't understand why the card doesnt seem to be cooperating with my system properly. Under Device Managed and Display Adapters. It just shows 'NVIDIA GeForce GTX 570' No errors or warnings.

However, further down on the Device Manager under Other Devices, there are two warnings. For the SM bus controller, and the USB controller. I know these aren't related to the GPU problem.

Sounds like it may need the motherboard driver CD running through it to get rid of these two. But these should not affect the display output

Can you just let me know what type of cable you are using to connect?

Just putting the ASUS Motherboard disc in the computer should fix the bus problems?

Yeah sure, I'm using a 2m DVI cable straight from the GPU to the back of my monitor.

I might be misreading so just to be clear can you select 1900x1080 resolution or not ?

Nope, I am only able to select two variations (1024 x 768) or (800 x 600). They are the only two available to choose from.

I know its unlikely but have you checked that the monitor is connected to the GPU and Not the motherboard.

That was going to be my next line :p

>Latest driver< just select your OS and search and make sure you check the clean install box as Vanthus said.

Just downloaded the new driver which you linked me too, I already had it installed but downloaded it again doing the 'Clean Install' No changes, screen resolution is still only allowing me to have two options and neither are what my screen can actually handle.

Have you tried right click on desktop then select change screen resolution and see which are available on there ? let us know if there are any other resolutions shown on there aswell.

Also while on that menu there is an advanced settings you can select which will open another window where you should select the second tab "monitor" then select the properties button and another small window will open and you want the second tab again "driver" and then you can hit the update driver button.

The device driver for the Graphics Card is up to date. I had the same options for screen resolutions, as right clicking and selecting screen resolutions brings up the same window as going control panel, adjust screen resolution.

Yes i know your graphics driver is up to date the driver in the post above i was referring to is the monitor driver.

So have you tried altering the resolution through the Nvidia control panel as this is what i thought you were saying you were using in previous posts.

I had this problem, if you can find any software for your screen that'll fix it.

WOW, thank-you so much Fear. Something so simple afterall :D Not sure why the option wasn't showing in the Control Panel, but managed to change it through the Nvidia Control Panel just like you said. :D
HAHA, my icons looks so small now, and programs look normal. Thanks once again. +rep

Well that is strange as they normally both have the same options but as long as it can be changed somewhere then all is good ;)
